    PER Ulbrich presser

Downing is now the play caller. Hackett is still the OC, no titles changed.

I guess this can put to rest that Rodgers got Saleh fired because of Hackett. That was the dumbest take of all time.

Yeah we’ll see if it’s any improvement or not, and it may just be change for change’s sake, but you gotta try something, right?

Just an admission that Hackett sucks ass … was a huge mistake to bring him here … which we all knew at the time

This process of bringing in guys who sucked elsewhere is just baffling to me and we keep doing it over and over and over.

    Kotite. Gase. Hackett. Carter. Downing.

None of these guys came from a huge successful run. And yet we rushed to hire them.

Just craziness to me. There was NO reason to think any of those losers would do well here coming off awful tenures. That Tennessee offense was not great, yet we rushed to hire and retain Downing and Carter. Kotite and Gase and Hacket came off disastrous HC runs and yet we rushed to hire them. At least the Kotite stink was SO bad it led to Parcells, so there’s that. But man these others. Ugh.

He stinks, but he also had RT and I think Derek Carr in Oakland? Rodgers is better than both so maybe we do get better on O? Who knows. Glad they made the change though

Pretty much sums it up. Can't be worse than Hackett, right?... Right?.....

Seriously, Hackett, Keith Carter, Todd Downing. What a shit staff with terrible track records they assembled on offense. These guys all seem stale and uninspiring. Wish their "pipeline" of talented up-and-coming coaches came to fruition

It just goes to show you the ineptitude of the former HC that Keith Carter was his guy and he pounded the table for him!!!! (Per Connor Hughes last year when people called for Carters head)

Trying to remain positive… He was the QB coach for Carr during probably his best two pro seasons. And then it dipped when he was OC lol but still.

Upside: If they still suck and the season goes down the drain, we'll be done with the lot of them. Itsa win/win for the team and the fans that they decided to make this change. We'll either improve or start over. No more bandaids on bleeding wounds.

Solid to see. The Derrick Henry affect probably helps that along though.

Downing may suck and I’m sure he does but I really think the fresh perspective will help things along. We saw in the Titans game with using both Braelon and Hall in the same backfield with double screens and what not that there IS some creative plays in the playbook.

It was certainly plausible as Rodgers is the reason why Hackett is employed here. If we see the offense start with 2 gut runs, a screen and a punt? We'll know immediately who is behind those playcalls.

This move had to be made. Its the only thing that made sense.

I am pretty indifferent on the Saleh firing. I don't think its much of a needle mover. While I dont think he is necessarily a super bowl winning coach, I also don't think he is utter garbage. I wouldn't be shocked to see him as a head coach in a few years.

You can't fire Saleh due to the teams performance, and leave the offensive staff untouched. The offense is what held this team back against Denver and Minnesota, both winnable games.

Downing probably sucks, but sometimes a change can inject a little life into a team.

the offense has the talent to be successful. I will keep an open mind about Downing because to my knowledge he hasn't had a cast like this before

Right now everything seems disjoint which to me seems like coaching/playcalling more than talent shortage

    Let's go!

100% with you as why Hackett is still employed, but the belief Rodgers went out of his way to fire Saleh b/c his BFF lost playcalling duties needs to be put to rest. Ulbrich just killed that take.

I think the biggest impact of this isn't necessarily related to Downing or Hackett themselves. The impact is from the accountability and symbolism of the move.

People now know something has to change and they will be punished if it doesn't. At a bare minimum, I have to imagine Downing will switch things up significantly from what Hackett was doing.

I'd be thrilled with league average offensive productivity--this doesn't stink at all after what we've been through

Just saw this as I was setting my fantasy team and was reading details on Conklin. Let's be realistic, they can't fire everyone mid-season. Some of this is going to be the "lesser of two evils." Downing did some good work with Carr so I'm holding on to that. Play calling is one of the true ARTS to football. It really takes a feel, not only for the game itself, but the specific game(s) they are playing in at the time. I guess we'll know Monday night if arrow is up or DOWN-ing on Todd! See what I did there! LOL :D

First off, I fully expected this change. It was obvious, and it for ever more puts to an end the conspiracy about AR demanding this and that with Hackett. Hackett strength is designing a playbook that suits AR and that is it. When to call specific plays based on D is another story. Downing might not be the final answer, but at least he understands QB needs and the power of a no shit strong running game. Now Carter better fix the OL dismal blocking technique to benefit the current player talent base, be it zone or brute forcing defensive players off the line, or he is toast. Carter is the Achilles heal and has been protected by Saleh since day one.
I fully suspect Brick might be searching for a better OL coach as we speak. First move in the right direction. You can not expect improvement without change and Saleh never embraced that. It might work, it might not, but the status quote was crap. Brick unfortunately inherited an OC staff that is weak as hell, and most all those choices were made by non other that RS.
