"I feel like I lost my best friend," Gastineau told ESPN. "If it wasn't for Abdul, I wouldn't have made it. He helped me through everything."

That hits reading that. RIP, Abdul.

That is very sad news, I wish Jets never traded Adbul to the Chargers for a 2nd round pick that the Jets drafted Glenn Dennison who was a bust, rest in peace Abdul

The quiet one of the three, formerly known as Larry Faulk when he was a 7th round draft pick out of Kent State. Let that sink in. 7th round, Kent State. Abdul Salaam means "Soldier of Peace" He was the perfect 4th member of that group of egos. Great run stopper who had some sacks of his own. I love seeing clips from those days focusing on Klecko, Gastineau or Lyons, then suddenly seeing Abdul Salaam enter the frame to finish off the ball carrier. Gone too soon. May he rest in peace.

I vaguely remember us drafting Larry Faulk in the late rounds in the '76 draft. At least I think I do (I've reached an age, where very old memories have become hard to distinguish from recollections based on subsequent media material :().

Anyway, Larry changed his name to Abdul Salaam shortly after the draft. He proved to be a keeper and by 1980, he was an anchor of what became the New York Sack Exchange, probably the most notorious unit that our team has ever had. I can't begin to tell you how many thrills they provided us fans with, they were incredible!
Thank you Abdul, for your contribution to this awesome time in Jets history,
    Farewell and Godspeed,

    - A lifelong Jets fan.

Those late 70's drafts were legendary. The Jets got such an incredible haul of talent. They should have gone to at least one SB with the players they had.
