I think it may have been the straw. It didn't help that the team wasn't prepared to play at home against DEN. Getting embarrassed on the International stage along with the Fanbase in revolt and the fuse was lit. Woody does pay attention to PR as we all know and that pin in the lapel while coaching losing football for years was too much. He didn't want to see the planes circling MetLife again or the billboards.
If the NFL was more like soccer I might've expected them to name AR as "player manager" for the rest of the season.
When Douglas holds a press conference on the Saleh firing, I hope one of the beat writers has the balls to ask why Hackett is still here and the even bigger balls to press Douglas hard when he tries to dance around the question.
It still doesn’t fix the Hackett problem though? The hope is that it fixes the accountability problem which in turn fixes the Hackett problem to an extent.
Woody sucks balls and should sell the team without a doubt. If they crash out I'll be sad but I accept it because we are the Jets. But I hope they realize what's at stake here and figure this out. Little hope left right now but we are entering week 5 and we are a win away from 1st place in division, that's what we got
I sure hope so... "Saleh was known to be a defensive guy, and the defense has made a marked improvement since his arrival especially the LB core. The offense has been the primary source of struggles, particularly the O-line, and until this season the QB...... do you think that needs to be addressed as well?......"
Now, the first order of business is to take play calling away from "Can't Hackett 2.0". If that happens, then we'll know how serious this move really is...
They really should demote Hackett to QB coach and get another signal caller on offense that is a associate head coach but likely will be messy
It's about time. If you go 20-36 in your first 3 seasons and have a talented team, and then you say "we're gonna keep doing the same thing", you deserve to be shown the door. My question is, what took Woody so long? The Jets organization is a mess. Has been since Woody bought the team. If only he would sell.
One thing this firing does do is put a bullseye on Nate Hackett and Keith Carter. Someone in the media has to ask JD about this situation as those two are the most responsible for this anemic offense.
Word is that this came from Woody... the Denver game was the harbinger. Saleh came in today "business as usual"... and was shown the door. The players love Ulbrich... but love doesn't win games.
Honestly, the comment to the reporter at halftime had to be the final nail in the coffin. "We just have to keep doing what we're doing and we'll be fine..." That was a jarring, stop in the tracks statement made after one of, if not the single most inept half of football in the history of this organization...
Huh? Our issue has always been that we keep bad coaches long after it's clear they suck. We finally did the right thing by cutting bait. Honestly, Saleh and Hackett should've been gone after last season.
At least it explained why there were never any half time adjustments... Everyone... including me... said we were a quarterback away. Maybe we were a Head Coach away. 20 and 36 is inexcusable with this talent.
