Quinnen has 1 sack through 5 games. I understand that he's occupying double teams, but you don't draft a guy 3rd overall and then give him a big contract to occupy double teams.
Aaron Donald occupied double teams for breakfast and still got double digit sacks and impacted the game in both run abd pass.
I saw a play tonight on the Jets Review Shows. It was the 4th-and-1 or whatever where Breece Hall got nothing. Jay Fiedler disected the play really well.....he showed exactly what went wrong. #84 (Yates?) completely missed the block to Aaron's right....the Viking was able to hit Breece in the backfield. If he was properly blocked for 1/2 second (not talking about standing him up for 4 or 5 seconds).... Breece has a lane for 5-10 yards (more ?) and they pick up the 1st down. We're blaming Breece.....we're blaming Aaron....we cursing Hackett and Saleh.....it was a f****** missed block by someone I don't even know his 1st name and it killed the entire drive. Showed you how it's not bad calls or bad playcalling. It really is EXECUTION.
Still goes back to coaching why his no name out there on a big play? Saleh has no clue wtf he is going either way. Also why not kick the fg you are in fg range and it was 10-0 you needed one anyways. He don’t know what he is doing as a leader of men
It sure feels like it’s not a lack of talent really…we have plenty of really good players. And when you have that, and the whole is way less than the sum of the parts, I have to look at coaching. Our defense isn’t playing at its more recent quasi-elite level, but it’s still pretty good. Having Reddick here would help a lot. But still… Our offense is a hot fucking mess, and I really think the coaching is at fault. We all pretty much hated the Hackett hire as soon as it was announced. I think no one here was super impressed with the Carter OL coach either. And shocker…our playcalling sucks…how many times do we have to run Breece into the middle of the line for 1 yard for crikes sake! Our OL is not playing up to potential. AVT was a pro bowler. Smith has been one of the best tackles in the game. They should be playing way better than they are. And we have a defensive HC who has no clue how to make any changes or fixes on O. I’m over Saleh. We need to get a real HC here. And we need to shitcan half if not all our offensive coaching staff. I get you can’t do all that in the middle of a season, but I just hate to sit here and waste yet another fucking year on this shit. Saleh is not the answer. If he was, we’d be playing much better than we are. It’s year 4 already.
But they WOULD have had it if someone had just done a simple block. That's it. It's not like I'm asking someone to make a great catch or make daylight out of none. Fiedler showed how a simple missed block blew up the play. If the guy does his job -- even half-assed with a mediocre block -- then Breece runs for 5, 10, 20, or more yards.
The risk reward doesn’t make sense from the analytics. 10-3 is a tie game if you don’t factor in the pick 6. It’s not like Vikings had scored a TD already.
But here’s the thing. We have a whole team of players not doing their job. One player is doing things well this year, Will McDonald. Outside of him every single player on this team is playing below their means. You think this is just a coincidence that all of our players are not playing as well as they’ve shown in the past? You think that has nothing to do with coaching? It seems you’re in the camp of us just keep doing what we’re doing, it’ll be fine. Perhaps you also agree this is the nothing part of the schedule/season?
Brenden Bates. I hear you. I blame coaching for putting him in there. I further blame coaching for not wanting a solid blocking FB knowing that we have 3 TEs with waaay below average blocking skills. Why is Bates even in the 53? The whole blocking scheme and execution has been dismal, but Hall has had a few brain fart moves to boot. Execution across the board and accountability. Who is to blame for that.
It was 4th and 2 from the opponent's 26 yard line. The analytics say to go for it there 100% of the time. We just called a bad play and didn't execute.
I'm NOT arguing the decision to go for it. Maybe right, maybe wrong. I'm saying the play would have worked if someone had just blocked someone instead of WHIFFED at him like one of us posting on these forums, He missed him by 90-95%. No wonder it looked horrible.
I'm NOT saying that at all. This team should be 4-1. I am saying that the play I referenced above is symptomatic of what is ailing us. How could a guy...inserted STRICTLY for blocking purposes....not block ? If I give you $20 and say to go to the store and get me a Diet Coke and a pack of Marlboros.....and you come back with Bazooka Bubble Gum and a Mounds Bar.....am I a lousy order-giver or is the problem with whoever screwed up my order ?
That's personnel. Bates is practice squad fodder we picked up from Chicago. We don't have a true FB. So we're going rely on Bates who claimed from the Bears late in the offseason as the guy to block in key situations. Bates or Zuerlein? That's the coaching decision.
