And did Douglas have anything to do with hiring the coaching staff? Remember, this is not the (same) old Jets organization chart that made management and coaching independent - it's on him!
At this moment it looks like he has let the strength of the team become a weakness. He needs to repair the Dline ASAP.. unless Saleh and Ulbrich can manage to get the current group back up to the expected level of performance and save his ass.
It's too late now. Barring the miracle of Reddick showing up (which won't even help the run defense all that much anyway), this is the group we're going to have this season. At least the games will be shorter because the other team will just ram it down our throats game after game. It'll be interesting to see how many passes Jacoby Brissett actually throws on Thursday night. Could be another one of those games like the Buffalo/Pats game a few years ago where the Pats only tried 1 or 2 passes all night. Ironic that what was once the single greatest strength that both Douglas and Saleh had will ultimately be what gets them fired.
This is what I fear will happen too. A trade for Quinton Jefferson, who Douglas let walk, is circulating the rumor mill.
I mean it's really not hard to find a fat-bodied DT for early downs in this league, but it also wasn't hard to find a QB better than Trevor Siemian last season and Joe Douglas sat there with his thumb up his ass the whole time while replacement QBs were signed and traded for all around him.
It apparently is for Joe Douglas. He's been really bad at finding people to play in the trenches, which is funny because we were told over and over again (and by the same people that told us that this roster was top tier) that the trenches were his "strength".
Joe D SUKS!!! we could have drafted LJ and been a perennial playoff team.... we took Becton instead of Wirfs our O is bottom 5 in scoring every year!!!
Again, Douglas should have been fired years ago but the Jets were committed to stability over quality.
Woody went on and on about the talent on the team. The GM builds the team. Pretty much a guarantee Douglas is gonna be extended
Not been impressed by his drafts (the '22 draft that probably saved him is looking less impressive by the year and the 20 and 21 drafts were really bad), he still hasn't fixed the o-line after multiple years, has entered into some terrible FA contracts, not taking 3 first rounders for the #2 pick in 21 and taking ZW should've been enough in itself, I haven't seen anything that makes me think that this is the person to take the Jets to a SB
His drafts have been better than just about any of the GMs before him. He's good at finding talent, although he's made some major mistakes with guys like Zach Wilson, Becton, and Mims. His problem is that he doesn't invest in depth, and he seems like a real SOB to deal with when it comes to contracts. A GM can't spend like a drunken sailor like Maccagnan did, but Douglas seems to handle contracts like he's paying out of his own bank account, and if he pays too much he may not be able to afford his electric bill. The reason he would need to go is because he didn't bother to get any quality veteran backup for either Wilson or Rodgers, and the fact that he did next to nothing to fix the O-line until this year.
2022 class claim to fame is really underperforming across the board except for JJ who is out for the season. That's pretty ugly. But he was able to get Saleh poached while nobody in the press seems to make any noise about his many failures. Joe has a Teflon mumu.
Just listened to Cimini's weekly podcast where he noted that Woody fired his right hand man, Rex Hogan, and now fired Saleh without real consultation with him. Not sure that he'll be wanted back next year anyway, but there's no way his morale can be high with all of the overstepping by Woody, not to mention having to sign Aaron Rodgers' friends and hire his preferred coaches. What a mess. Woody might be on to something with the change of coach, but between this, forcing LaFleur to be fired among numerous other oversteps, he might have the intention of creating a winning team but he sure has a knack for creating organizational chaos
