I googled the emancipation age concept and it looks like the average age for a kid to break free from parents. Is that what you meant? I come from a culture where parents take care of their kids until they die. So probably in Turkey and rest of Middle East this number is higher than 30.3 years. I wonder if there is data about USA. Probably low 20's right?
Yes the age when they fly the coop. The average in the US is 19. Edit: I just looked up more numbers: Turkey average 24 years old. Sweden is the lowest in Europe at 17.8 Croatia is the highest at 31.8
Love this thread and I come across things like this often enough, but couldn’t think of anything at the moment. So I googled something to contribute and found an awesome example. This is just me admitting I didn’t come across it randomly. Today I learned about the Fisher Protocol, invented by law professor named Roger Fisher, who thought we should plant the nuclear codes inside a guy in the president’s team so the president would have to kill one guy before the codes could be used to kill millions more. Which is a fantastic idea.
That's awesome. Then you just have to find someone associated with federal government that it wouldn't be a joy to kill.
Pretty sure I saw the Fisher Protocol open for the Donner Party at Maxwells in Hoboken back in the eighties.
Today I learned about the Nevada Paiute legend of the Si-Te-Cah, a group of "giant" cannibalistic red-haired barbarians who waged war on all of the local native tribes in the 1800s before the tribes united and killed them all. The final survivors of the Si-Te-Cah holed up in Lovelock Cave and the Paiutes trapped them in the cave by lighting a big fire and killed them off. Not sure why there isn't already a movie about this, even a bad one. Fuckin gingers.
Fisher was a pussy. If he really wanted to do it right, he’d have the codes installed in the First Lady.
Today I learned the little-known first step to fix peeling skin from dehydration: https://www.aad.org/public/everyday-care/skin-care-basics/dry/dermatologists-tips-relieve-dry-skin Close the bathroom door. Use warm rather than hot water. Limit your time in the shower or bath to 5 or 10 minutes. Wash with a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser. Apply enough cleanser to remove dirt and oil but avoid using so much that you see a thick lather. Blot your skin gently dry with a towel. Slather on the moisturizer immediately after drying your skin.
I've been a Nevada resident since 1999 and this was the first I ever heard of this... apparently they also lived on rafts in the middle of a lake.
Yeah that's pretty wild. It makes me think they were some kind of feral descendants of Leif Erikson's vacation to North America and they just kept that need to be on the water.
Yeah read up on some comments made by a pretty well known Northern Paiute leader saying they ate her tribe... absolute insanity "Intriguingly, the Paiute tribe inhabiting the region for millennia possesses a legend of cannibalistic red-haired giants called the Si-Te-Cah. These giants, according to the legend, arrived by sea and dominated the area due to their superior size and strength." Suppoesedly a conquistador wrote about something similar in Peru
We all know the story of the Lindbergh baby kidnapping of 1932, but it's what I recently "learned" that I'm throwing it in the ring (and also a second post about Charles Lindbergh post-WWII after this one). I'm not going to get into what's true, what may be true, etc. Hitler was on the rise to power, and it's interesting to note that Bruno Hauptman was German, although I can't see what sort of conclusion could be drawn here. Anyway, there has always been speculation that 1) Hauptman may not have acted alone 2) he was railroaded. What I learned: some thought Charles Lindbergh was in on it. I can give an explanation later as to why if anyone is interested in the wild conjecture. Edit: Autocorrect.
Today I learned Part II: Charles Lindbergh. After WWII and beginning in 1957, Lindbergh became an aviation consultant for Germany. The circumstances of why it was Germany in particular is never explained (that I could find). President Eisenhower turned a blind eye and didn't stop the consultation gig. Bad look, if you ask me. Lindbergh also lived a double life. Yikes. https://www.mnhs.org/lindbergh/learn/family/double-life Edit & P.S.: Lindbergh flew to Germany before the advent of WW II to receive a medal from Hermann Göring, Commander of the Luftwaffe, on behalf of Adolph Hitler.
While Yorktown is where the British surrendered ending the Revolutionary War in 1781 the last battle of the war took place on the Jersey Shore in Barnegat nearly 1 year later
