Actually Carter signed an extension so nothing affects his cap hit this year. The money made in the restructuring has to be for Reddick.
So Joe Douglas does the Hassan R deal with the Eagles essentially taking over the problem he was causing them and giving it to us I like the player and his abilities But our GM did a shoot ready aim here ..not anticipating this guys apparently poor attitude and unreasonable money demands Now it’s a standoff ..just great
So you're saying the extension begins in 2025 and runs through 2027? And 2024 contract is left untouched?
At this point, Douglas should just try to move Reddick and a lower round pick to see if he can get back the third round pick that he lost on what will go down as one of the worst trades of all time.
It will be if he never plays a snap for the Jets. At that point, we've given up a third round pick for quite literally nothing.
Ummm, not exactly - where there's a loop, there's a hole. Looks like KC's Chris Jones was in a similar situation last year and KC drove a truck through it - a Brink's truck. "Jones engaged in the rare holdout that extended into the regular season. With negotiations on a contract extension at an impasse, Jones ended his 51-day holdout before preparations for Kansas City's second regular season game against the Jacksonville Jaguars began. "Modifications were made to Jones' remaining 2023 contract year in which $5.5 million of new performance bonuses were added as a compromise. Jones racked up $2.25 million of mandatory fines ($50,000 per day) for missing training camp, lost one week's regular season salary worth $1,083,333 and forfeited a $500,000 workout bonus because he didn't participate in the offseason conditioning program." www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/agents-take-potential-2024-training-camp-holdouts-include-a-pair-of-all-pro-wrs-and-a-disgruntled-rb/ Of course, adding a signing bonus or performance bonus to put money in the right pocket to offset the left pocket fines would make it even harder for the Jets to find the cap space.
Here’s an idea, offer him a contract for this season that allows him to recoup his lost wages through incentive. Break the all time sack record? Earn what you would’ve before you went full stupid. Otherwise gfy.
Honestly, if this prick comes back halfway through the season just to collect a paycheck, he should immediately be cut.
Why? He would still be useful for the playoffs and we wouldn't want a playoff opponent to pick him up. He'd aso be pretty cheap, probably less than $5 million total after all penalties and forfeiting half his game checks.
Agreed, unmotivated or not he is only hurting himself and we need to keep it that way. If he comes back he plays for us or nobody.
Well at this point looks like he won’t be here for week 1 at least…honestly I thought he would show up for games, but doesn’t look that way. He has the right to do what he wants, but I think it’s a bad move for him…just makes any incentives harder to achieve and does not come off with a good look for him…
Joe Douglas gave up a valuable 3rd round pick for nothing in return? That is the height of idiocy. He will get roasted big-time all season if Reddick never plays a game for the Jets and the pass rush struggles, and rightfully so. You ALWAYS have a deal in place before agreeing to a trade and giving away real draft capital. Rookie GMing 101, Joe D.
If Reddick sits out, Douglas is going to get something back from whatever team he inevitably trades him to. It doesn't matter though because he's not gonna sit the season out, the guy will be broke by October.
I hope to hell he gets into the fold because the bottom line here is making the team better and he does that. The best teams almost always have that difference maker on the edge that puts them over the top. And yes, the financial penalties sound very severe so one would think he can't holdout much longer but who the hell knows.
The dude is playing Russian roulette with his career. If the Jets pass rusher looks good with going players stepping up, the Jets will let him sit out as long as he wants and will not give him any added money or cover his fines and will not give him a long term deal. The team that takes him on next year will not give as much as he thinks he's worth either. His best bet is to report and play his ass off ASAP... But it seems his ego is too big or he is just too stupid to do that. I mean if the Jets are desperate for a pass rush after two games they may give in , but that is the only way this tactic will work out for him
