Went to six of the practices. He did show improvement and looked better in the last one than he did previously. Still a project but the upside is there.
Here's my picks for the practice squad QB Adrian Martinez QB Michael Pratt or a vet QB3 WR Brandon Smith WR Tyler Harrell TE Anthony Firkser OL Kohl Levao OL Brady Latham OL Jake Hanson OT Austin Deculus DL Jalyn Holmes DL Bruce Hector DT Tanzel Smart LB Jackson Sirmon LB Sam Eguavoen S Jaylen Key S Al Blades
I agree with most of these, but see no point in keeping Deculus and Hanson. They just haven't showed enough imo, and there's bound to be better camp cuts available. I had high hopes for Sirmon, based upon his collegiate career, but I never heard his name mentioned once all offseason, and only remember seeing/hearing his name called for being in on a tackle once. At S, I like Monroe better than Blades or Key, but have no objections to keeping them also if there's room. I'd add Swilling CB if he clears waivers. Sefcik or a TE camp cut should be added as well as Firkser. Tanzel has been a nice story, but I'm not sure if I see much point in using up a PS spot for him. He's just not good enough, and has been around for what 2, 3, 4 years now? Also, if Siebert (K) doesn't get signed by another team, I'd like the Jets to keep him on the PS. He was perfect in preseason action. This may be Zeurlein's last year or if his yips continue from the Giants game into the season, it would be good to have someone that the Jets knew and trusted to replace him.
I had the same thought about Seibert and would be open to that but figured he'd be on the top of their call list if Zuerlein has any issues. Plus is another team needed a kicker, they'd easily sign off the practice squad anyway
We claimed a TE from the Bears, Brendan Bates. Makes sense with only 2 on the roster and Yeboah out the first 4(?) games. Wonder who gets cut in his place Zack Rosenblatt @ZackBlatt The #Jets claimed TE Brenden Bates off waivers from the Chicago Bears.
Jeremy Fowler @JFowlerESPN Source: Lewis Cine is signing with the #Jets. Former first-round pick starts elsewhere after Minnesota released him Tuesday.
I thought he was gonna end up being a starter this year, but then realized it was based off one catch last pre season. Still think he can be good though
Yeah, he's got that high point ability and thought he might be good around the endzone and a deep threat. Thought he might make the roster. But they want routes and brains, ST's, too so maybe he's lacking
I hope he can too, but those 3 UDFA WRs are mainly STs contributors, one of Wilson or Williams goes down and Lazard is a starter again. I'm hoping they pick someone else up that can move the chains.
Exactly why a lot of the board wanted to see Bowers or a potential trade back for Brian Thomas/Keon Coleman type at 11. I wasn’t particularly upset with taking a tackle but short term it was silly.
Chances are he will clear the waivers. And if not, I just don't think it is a big loss. Very inconsistent camp, in spite of the flashes. He did not take a second year leap that Gipson did. More like very similar to 1st year, and he wasn't really that great then. I think to have him on the PS is a solid plan. On the 53 a bit rich.
