Adam Schefter on X: "Edge-rusher Haason Reddick now has officially requested a trade from the Jets, per sources." / X
So what are our options here? Try to trade him for someone who will contribute this season Let him rot and accrue fines, hope this eventually compels him to play How likely do we think trading him for someone who will meaningfully contribute this year is? Which positions do we still need to shore up? I can't image he'd sit the entire year, so I do think he'd eventually play for us if we don't submit to his demands. The question is how much effort are we going to get from a guy with this much animosity towards us and what would it do to our locker room having that kind of guy around?
Tell his agent he better find a team willing to give the 3rd rd pick back (which wont happen) or he can sit out and rot....
Even getting a 3rd rounder back sucks, since the whole point of acquiring Reddick was to get someone who could help push us over the edge this season. We need an immediate contributor in any hypothetical trade scenario.
Insane this guy actually thinks he has leverage at this point. He's going to make a shit ton of money regardless If he would just show up.. What a greedy decision. Oh, well.
There’s no way they trade him. No GM is going to trade him now for a lesser pick than a 3rd (which is what it will be) and have it go down as the worst/dumbest trade of all time. If you keep him, he will report eventually. There’s no way he holds out the whole season and then enters into free agency as a 30 year old who hasn’t played in 2 years. I think he has to report by week 10 anyway to accrue the last year of his contract. I’d much rather have him for 7-8 games plus the playoffs and feel like I at least got something for my pick, rather than get nothing for my pick and being laughed at for as long as you live.
Someday, Joe will learn that the Eagles, while he worked there, are not his friends and used him to rid themselves of this headache while taking the guy that was here and developed to play this role...
I think it is unlikely we get anything for him now. I am not sure teams are lining up to give him a huge contract. Our offer was the best one to Philly, and we didn't give up that much back then. Now that he demanded a trade... JD really fucked the situation badly. Who now still thinks we shouldn't have extended/matched Huff at 17 mil? LOL To me, he stays. Just like Moore stayed. Unless someone gives a good offer, which won't happen. This fucker is going to have to show up and play eventually. And if he wants a contract next year, he is going to pretend to be nice. Otherwise he won't play much, and no one is giving him a big contract at 31 off a bad year. And again, this solution is not great, it's just the least of evils we have to deal with due to JD's incompetence handling this position, starting with the pick swap.
As I already said before this happened: Howie Roseman handled JD in this entire fiasco as a veteran teacher schooling a bad student.
I wish this wasn’t a SOJ situation because by ALL reports, Reddick operated in bad faith. Got traded expecting to get a deal on his terms (to not even show up and just get a deal) and not report? And the Jets have made it clear…show up and we can talk…cmon. This is all Haason being a BI….about getting this deal.
