Now you're REALLY going back... Clark Gaines was a terrific Jet. Do I hear a Tom Newton anyone? Kevin Long?
Good question. Since Peasley played first yesterday and has been with the Jets longer, I think he was, but we'll see after this week's practice who comes in first in the game next week. They could just be rotating who comes in first, or it could be in order of how the Jets have them rated. I've been rooting for Peasley. Martinez joined late, and I knew nothing about him. I like that he had two 12-yard runs yesterday, but after looking at some videos of both of their play, Peasley looks to have the better arm. It will be interesting to see. Who knows, with Travis not being ready to really play until at some point during the season, the Jets may try to keep both Peasley and Martinez on the PS while Travis either stays on the NFI list or goes on IR.
I know it was only 1 play but the pocket presence and throw on the run from Martinez to Smith was a really nice play. It's nice to have some developmental QBs on the roster.
I agree Peasley has the stronger arm, but Martinez has the better "touch". Now I don't know how that would translate in MetLife this fall/winter. Touch is nice, but you have to be able to throw darts in MetLife in the fall/winter.. Agreed on the next pre-season game. Here's a scary thought, both of these kids looked better than TT. I'm still not a Hackett fan but its early.
As sad as it sounds, our 4 seed this year is more capable than the starter QB last year. Yet some here think we will win less games than last year.
It's preseason. It's nice to see end of the bench QBs ball out, but does not mean much. Heck, Zach Wilson balled out too in preseason - even today. It does not mean they are any good. We know Tyrod is. Martinez looks to be in the same mold as Travis: not a huge arm, but gets it done with both arm and legs. I think we stash these guys on PS, not on 53.
Martinez is one of the most experienced rookie QBs ever, I think he started all 4 years at Nebraska plus he got the extra whole Covid season at Kansas State. with all that experience plus the UFL season fresh off the books he should look comfortable on a field full of rookies/UDFAs I think Peasley has the better upside and by all accounts he’s looked pretty good in camp
For me after the 1st preseason game, the biggest was clearly Braelon Allen. He looked like a bully constantly running downhill. He should become a nice change of pace back from Breece Hall. Olu probably did OK? You didn't hear anything from him except the penalty and that normally means you're doing OK. Probably the 2nd best imo was Quantez Stiggers. He looked solid.
As of right now, IMO, we cannot expose Adrian Martinez to the waiver wire--he's our QB of the future as of right now. If we get someone better, ok then. This means going into the season with 3 QB's on the 53 which is f'd up but I don't see how to avoid that.
I'm looking forward to seeing Corley start out the season as a complimentary player that the defense isn't keying on. He's clearly not Deebo's caliber but I still think he's going to be a playmaker.
I thought Isaiah Davis looked very quick on passes out of the backfield. I've been on JD's case, rightfully so, but these 2 later round RB's were very good picks.
