cool let me go back and pick all the players we could have had in every draft and the jets would have won quite a few superbowls. this is a silly thread.
woulda coulda shoulda is all this amounts too i like dbrick he's a hometown hero and he's gonna come to play every game for the simple fact that his family probably will be in the stands Death before dishonor...
D'Brick played some of the toughest DEs in the league this year. Seymour twice, Taylor twice, Schoebel twice, Freeney, Marcellus Wiley, Alex Brown/Ogunleye... IMO, he played pretty well for what he was up against. A rookie is not supposed to come in against those pass rushers and light it up. D'Brick learned valuable lessons and gained a lot of experience this year. I expect him to be much better next year with a full year of experience and (hopefully) an intense training program to get him bigger.
If i could do it again Definetly would pick 1.Jay Cutler QB (Bronsos) 1.Nick Mangold C 2.Marcus McNeil OT (Chargers) 3.Eric Smith S 3.Gabe Watson NT (Cardinals) 4.Brad Smith WR 4.Leon Washington RB 5.Mark Aderson 3-4 OLB (Bears) 6.Bruce Gradkowski QB (Bucs) 7.Marques Colston WR (Saints) If we had that draft it would be crazy but we didnt oh well
I think every team in the NFL would love that draft. Why cant we be happy w/ what we have? D brick had a great year for a rookie...who cares what McNeill did?
McNeill had a much better rookie year. He's very talented, but teams were worried about his back. We shall see.
McNeil has the same spinal condition that ended Peyton Manning's brother's(Cooper) football career. D'Brick was the safe choice, and after McNeil, hes been the best rookie Tackle.
Not really... Go back and read the PRE-Draft stuff and what people said.. This draft was known to be LOADED with talent and loaded with OL talent. It was stated a few times that Brick and his deficient Run blocking abilities might not be the best pick when you could fill that hole later on and STILL get a QB or top talent at the top of the draft OR trade down.... Again, as I've stated, you can't totally fault a new staff for taking the safest pick and the hometown "Good Guy" but, as was predicted, that draft was Unbelievable.
Mcneil is better hands down. Brick is quite a bit behind him in terms of their development. It is stupid to compare the two and say that they are even close to being on the same level. Brick may be a top pro somewhere down the line but I think it is safe to say he was a dissapointment in his first season. That does not mean he will be a bust it means that he played like a rookie. I think he will be a fine LT down the line just needs to bulk up.
Jet Blue is right. The scouting reports were accurate. Ferguson is very hard to beat with a speed rush, but has problems with the bull rush and doesn't get the leg drive needed to be an effective run blocker. He can pull and block in space very well. That's exactly what we got. Ferguson tired towards the end of the season, but a lot of rookies do, they aren't used to playing 16+ games. He has to increase his arm strength so he can get under the pads and stand up a DE who bull rushes him. He needs to develop the strength in his legs so he can drive block better. He had some trouble keeping weight on while in college too. He wasn't a complete LT when we drafted him, and I and quite a few others knew he still had to develop, not a little, but a lot if he is ever to be the pro bowler his draft position says he should be some day. It won't happen by next year either. He does have to show improvement though... 10 sacks is way too many to give up for a LT. Most of those came on bull rushes. Teams know that, so expect them to take advantage until Ferguson shows he can stand up to it.
Just for the record, if mario williams or reggie bush had dropped to 4, we would have taken mcneil with the 2nd rounder. This is a fact. But d'brick was the best value available at 4, thus they took him and would not pick another tackle in the 2nd. once again, lets not get into bashing me demanding my source, becasue i will never ever talk about that again and i really wont post any new inside info on here
how is it a fact? We don't know where we had McNeill ranked. These kinds of posts are not helpful to anyone.
I doubt they were going to take Mcneil. I think they wanted Mario Williams all along but as much as anyone wants to bitch about Brick, he did stabilize the pass blocking. Pennington didn't get touched for the most part and I think down the road he will be a great left tackle.
Cmartfor Prez is pretty reliable. I would not discount what he says. Hey, like I said, Ferguson is what he was projected as. A great pass blocking against the speed rush, a guy that can pull and block in space, but weak against the bull rush and not a good run blocker. That isn't bashing him.... that's what the scouting reports saod, and that's what he is. Can he get better? not only can he, he will. The question is HOW much better.
This was exactly how I wanted to go last year. Draft Cutler then McNeil later. McNeil was rated #1 for last years draft for over a year until he got hurt. He was a steal as long as his back was OK. which it seems to be.
I wanted Cutler and McNeill. I still do. We'd be in better shape now. A solid Tackle and a future QB. Clemens couldn't even win second string last year. If he does play he will throw a lot of interceptions because he throws the ball too low for the NFL.
How many rookie starting left tackles have made the Pro Bowl ever? I'm still shocked the Jets let Antonio Gates go undrafted.
