Not sure if this was ever noticed/discussed... https://www.si.com/college/ohiostat...on-lee-charged-felony-drug-possession-cocaine Former Ohio State Buckeyes standout linebacker Darron Lee's post-football career has been plagued with legal troubles. Earlier this month, According to records obtained by The Columbus Dispatch, those troubles continued to mount, with Lee being charged with felony drug possession on September 6 in Dublin, Ohio. According to the records, Dublin Police accused Lee of being in possession of two bags of a white powder that was later confirmed to be cocaine. The bags were originally found by police in April during Lee's domestic violence arrest. It was the second domestic violence incident Lee was being investigated for, with the other occurring in October of 2022. Those warrants are still active, while Lee is scheduled to appear in court for his drug possession charge on Thursday, Sept 21. Lee, who was a starter for the Buckeyes' 2014 national championship team, was a first-round draft pick of the New York Jets in 2016. The former Ohio State product has not played in an NFL game since 2020 but was a member of the Raiders practice squad in 2021.
It's hard to believe someone could actually be a WORSE GM than John Idzik. However, Mike Macagnan was just that. Objectively, worse than John Idzik because he got an entire 5 years to ruin the NYJ. Remember how after 2016 he started cutting every single player that meant anything to the fans? It was his bright idea to rebuild the team. The fact is, his drafting was so bad that he stripped the team to nothing and was never able to build it back up. By far and away, the very worst GM I'm the history of the team.
Between this with Sharon Lee, the rumors online about Sam Darnold's taste for recreational drugs and Muhammad Wilkerson's** drug & alcohol issues, makes you think McCagnan didn't do his homework on key players and their habits of choice **Macc didn't draft Wilkerson but he did give him that huge extension
the guy that Connor Hughes 'outed' (Tony Vegas) used to make the claim on Twitter that Darnold is a big fan of party drugs like MDMA. He claimed that the Jets were deeply concerned about his weekend activities and frequency of them when he was here and it contributed to the decision to trade him to the Panthers
Not like he stuck anywhere else but Lee finally started to look comfortable and instinctive in year 3. In true Jets fashion, we switch coaches, defenses and dump the player that’s coming along. Really bad pick though. Bowles running a 4-2-5 with glorified safety/linebacker hybrid Deone Bucannon with the Cardinals in 2017 was the flavor of the year as innovative and the Jets tried to find their very own in Lee.
The Jets, over the years, have been guilty of playing players out of their natural positions with poor results. Nevertheless, I think Lee is the one guy they played at his college position, MLB, but might have been better off being moved to OLB. I remember him getting blown away by opposing OL on running plays up the middle. However, I also recall he made some nice tackles behind LOS on wide runs. This tells me he might have been better on the outside and had enough speed and agility to be an effective PR. He did have that one great game in Detroit where he intercepted 2 passes, one for a TD. The bottom line though, as a MLB, he was awful, and I remember Bart Scott ragging on him too.
The DV was for beating up his own mother and also the mother of his kid. I didn't know he also had another one. There's something wrong with that guy. He didn't seem very stable and had anger issues when he was here.
I agree that we have played players out of their natural positions quite a bit…not sure that it’s any more than other teams but subjectively it sure feels that way. We have also given up on quite a few players that we drafted and then traded away or let go and they went on to have success…cases in point off the top of my head are Hugh Douglass, Jonathan Vilma, Demario Davis, etc. I think a big part of that is our continuous turnover in head coaches…we go from players coach to disciplinarian to players coach, and from 3-4 to 4-3 to 3-4 and west coast offense to down the field to west coast…just ping pong between philosophies
Hugh Douglass was traded for $ reasons (if my memory serves correctly), and Vilma was dumped because Eric was such a defensive "mangenius" that a defensive rookie of the year didnt fit in his system. I'll give you DD though.... and they even got him back a second time. (but that stupid tree pose when he tackled a guy after he gained yards really irked me)
Don’t forget Tony Martin. College QB we drafted in 1989 with the intention of turning him into a wide receiver. Cut him before the end of preseason and he goes on to put up numbers that would have placed him second on our all-time receiving chart. The front office recognised his ability, drafted him… and then said ‘ah, what the hell’. And we had problems at receiver that year too, with Walker ageing and no solid option outside of Al Toon and JoJo Townsell.
The following year, our problems at wide receiver led to us to take Rob Moore in the supplemental draft, costing us our No.1 pick in 1991, which we could have used to take Favre. Moore ended his career with almost the same stats as Tony Martin. A baffling decision with serious after-effects.
Bad GMs have bad drafts which leads to bad teams, especially when combined with bad coaches Hence the Jets
