Yes, trust the established media to not put up such bogus things as an at least three times removed from reality Reddit posting of a Majority report opinion piece based on inaccurate characterizations from Twitter ('X' if you will). That's fine for those who prefer to accept the phony contentions of anonymous social media warriors over actual news reporting. Unfortunately there are plenty of those so detached from reality, even here at TGG, that they cite examples of warped stories as some kind of victory. For those interested, the Majority Report piece at least cites a link to the actual words upon which the editing, paraphrasing, distortion and false conclusions are based - a State Department video from YouTube, sans editing. Simply understanding the words of the participants for what they are puts the players in their actual places. Social media is exposed as failing miserably here.
I’m not disagreeing that social media can be a cesspool of misinformation. But, do you also think that there are times that the “established “ media covers something and gets it wrong, leaves things out, doesn’t tell the truth/whole story? And that social media can be a platform for eyewitness truth?
When the media gets something wrong, people lose their jobs, it’s a big deal. Whereas every asshole is wrong on social media every day that’s a big difference that shouldn’t be overlooked — also on Elon Musk’s shithole site now you can claim to be whoever you want to be, and get “verified” for it as long as you pay a nominal fee to him. That makes any eyewitness reports very questionable and “truth” nearly impossible to find But his site is not the one getting shut down by the government lol clown world
Sure, there are exceptions. There are people making up fake profiles to report whatever. But there are also plenty of things on the nightly news that eyewitness folks are left scratching their heads. ie “mostly peaceful”, Palestine Ohio, even some of the true crime stories. I think the “established “ media that our parents listened to has lost integrity. That’s my opinion. But imo, information and the twisting it into form is bought and sold on every level.
oh for sure but you wanna list the times the traditional media was wrong against the shit we see on social media? we would be here forever on that second one. Clearly one is better than the other I don’t think we need to ban anything, we just need to be think more critical about what we read
The only reason I would want anything banned, is that the country of origin doesn’t allow it for their own. Other than that, I totally agree that the best parenting comes from home and there needs to be more of it .
"Media" is plural - there's a lot more than one available - why settle on getting your "information" from unknown, often fake, names on media outlets anonymously owned, unregulated by law and often impossible to track down when there are so many around where both the ownership and the authors are identifiable? Of course nobody gets things right all the time and that's why it's foolish to rely on a single source just because they're saying what you want to hear. Now, do you also agree that some of that "eyewitness truth" is just bullshit misinformation because there is no accountability?
corporations are people now, based on previous rulings, so I don’t see why they wouldn’t win this suit I guess it depends on how good their lawyer is
