Yes, at this point we're on the same page, but the other WRs that could really help the Jets this year Malachi Corley and Roman Wilson could go in these next 10-15 picks.
I'm actually pretty good on our TE room. I see Conklin as a higher output TE next year with the bump in QB play. The irony that the biggest Rodgers critic on this board has to suddenly be the one constantly reminding all these post 1st round pick doom and gloomers that we do still have "weapons" that can be expected to be better with better qb play is kinda bizzaro world crazy
I think Conklin will have a good season this year, but he will be a FA next season and I don't think the Jets will be able to afford to re-sign him with all the FAs they have, needing to extend MC2, Reed, Sauce, G. Wilson, Breece and JJ. I like Yeboah better than most here, but he could easily be upgraded. As you know the draft isn't just about need, it's upgrading talent at other positions, and establishing a pipeline of talent to replace veteran players who will be FAs in a year.
You're aware of the Jets "quality" picks in this round historically? You're overreacting I think. If the Jets were the Chiefs I could understand that logic. This team at points last season was close to unwatchable. For sure there's room on this roster for a bunch of talented young players. Competition for jobs is good. Parcells used to stress that all the time I remember. Best players play. Why gift a vet a job just because? Let these young players come in and compete for jobs .Let some of the vets feel a bit uncomfortable. Fight for their JOBS. I'm all for it. Competition for jobs is good.
There is still 5 or so WR I'd be varying levels of excited to take. I'm optimistic we get there with 13 picks to go
We might be able to land one of Wilson or Corley if we stand pat. The only team I could see going receiver between now and our pick is Baltimore. Barring a trade up.
Despite the run on defense two of the best available players on ESPN's list are corners. Not a big need but getting top level talent in round three is a good thing. We could also take the second RB. Still wouldn't mind a receiver.
I still have the surrounding question in my head on whether the Jets would even take WR next though. It's not a given to me Rodgers wouldn't prefer another vet add of his choosing for the 2024 run (like OBJ or MVS, and who at this point are gonna probably be available at a cheap flyer contract rate), and if that's the case they might go in different direction there.
