That makes more sense, but I don't think the Jets would be able to move up for just a 4th round pick. The only way that trading up to take Odunze or staying put at #10 and taking Bowers are the only 2 options is if JD just determines that he's going to draft a receiver of some kind and not address OT come hell or high water, and/or there aren't any teams interested in moving up to #10. If Bowers and Odunze are sitting there at #10, I find it hard to believe that no team would have interest in moving up for one of them.
Well yes I’d prefer to go OL regardless. however, I’m ok with Bowers and Conklin and Ruckert…if Ruckert, who hasn’t really shown much at all in 2 years, is any good, he’ll find a way to get some reps. Can have Conklin and Ruckert and then put Bowers in the slot with GW and Mike Williams outside. There are ways to get creative. I just don’t think I’d give up the 4th just to let a former 3rd round TE who hasn’t really done all that much get some more reps. If he’s good enough, he should find a way to the field…though I agree that means Hackett needs to get creative and I’ve been pretty clear on my hate on Hackett.
Atlanta is the perfect entry point. Whatever defensive player they want at 8 will most likely be there at 10. The point chart is about 100 points depending where you look. Perfect spot.
If we move from 10 to 8 for a 4th I’m completely fine with it if it means we get Nabers or Alt. Alt to the Titans I don’t think is set in stone as all these Mocks believe. Apparently their GM loves Odunze
I have Fashanu as the number 2 tackle in the draft, but not top 10 because of all the quarterbacks. He needs work on his technique, especially if he's going to be a left tackle in the NFL. He's certainly not plug n play at LT the way I think Alt is.
TEs usually take some time to develop. Ruckert is a third round pick, and a lot was invested. I for one, after having invested in him, would like to see if we can reap rewards of the development. And no, I do not expect him to play much if we have Bowers and Conklin, even if he is solid player. The other two guys are just better. I would bet on Ruckert doing better than a 4th round pick this year though. Now, that's not the reason not to draft Bowers: Odunze is in this scenario, which to me is a big upgrade over Bowers. But to me Odunze and a big role for Ruckert, who has much higher chance of breaking out than a 4th round pick, is worth a lot more than Bowers and a 4th round pick and a 3d string role for Ruckert.
I think he's plug and play as a pass blocker, although his technique can use some refinement there. IMO he mostly needs work on his run blocking, but I think he could step in and play OT at a higher level than any other OT the Jets could draft or sign in FA besides Bakhtiari, but the problem with Bakhtiari is that he is fragile as glass and he can't be counted on to stay healthy. He's more injury prone than Smith. I think the Jets would be very lucky to have him fall to them at #10. I can see the Titans taking him or maybe the Bears at #9. It would be just like the Giants to take him as well.
Yes, just an opinion but decades of Jets drafts gone bad quickly. We are all optimistic this time of year. It's like our Super Bowl. But I want some postseason play this year. No more mulligans.
Oh the Jets are pretty dumb for sure. They have mega history to back it up...mega. Just look at this stellar draft class. Man those are god awful! Hated Idzik and hated Mac. And unfortunately JD’s first draft is right down there with those two…
I could be wrong about Rome Odunze but a wideout in a soft conference like the PAC 12 who wins with his size/strength and not athleticism or route running scares me. He also didn't do squat until Michael Penix got there Odunze seems like a good kid though and tough as nails. I wish him success wherever he goes. If he's the Jets pick I won't sulk or hope he fails just cause I didn't want his selection but I would prefer he's not the pick at no. 10
I posted this almost a month ago, but Rome wins on every route with or without Penix. Harmons WR model is excellent. Rome is very, very good. He may actually be a better fit with Rodgers than Nabers, even though I love Nabers and would be thrilled with his explosiveness.
The concerns with Bak go beyond just being "Injury prone". There is zero chance early career Bakhtiari is walking through any doors this spring. At this point even managing to make it out of training camp without his knee barking up would probably be a major win for the guy's career in itself. As a backup to another guy who is all but guaranteed to miss at least 1/4 of next season he's arguably even a better odds bet to *NOT* end up being being available to step when that times comes at that. How many of the people in this thread wanting to push the "draft weapons" narrative and glossing over the bad outcome risks here while doing it do you honestly believe are going to give Joe D a "he did what I wanted. that was enough and worth the risks at OL" pass and not join in on the bloody murder pile ons if that unavoidable Tyron injury happens week 1 and Bak isn't ready to step in? Like you literally can't script in a more bad team Jets being the Jets type scenario. Just saying That said Bak didn't get that ring in 2010, and has just known the coming up small when it matters most pain most associated with Rodgers' career run. Personal relationships aside i don't think it's the given I initially did that he chooses here to sign his cheap hold on to a career contract. There is teams out there with legit super bowl run projections (like the Chiefs) who still project to be active shoppers in the post-draft FA T market.
Agreed. I've tried to sell myself on Odunze but he just doesn't jump off the tape to me. I also feel like he looks less athletic on the field than his testing numbers would imply. There's a clear drop off in receiver talent after MHJ and Nabers. I wouldn't hate us picking Odunze, but I wouldn't feel great about it either. I'm far more confident in Bowers being a good pro than Odunze.
He won't be there at 10. If we want him we're gonna have to jump the Bears IMO and I'm more than ok with that. He's got some Davante Adams in him. I'm not saying he's going to be the best WR in the game for years at a time but his skillset is very similar. He can win contested balls but also track the ball as good as anyone while it's in the air. He can play in traffic in the middle of the field. He's an above average route runner. I think he's the best WR in the class and he'd make us a whole lot better if he's a Jet.
I'm not going to claim to really know shit about the guy, as the only game I really paid attention to him was the bowl game, but yeah I didn't see "It" either....
