All this Draft talk and us going OT for insurance for Smith and Moses reminds me our old chubby lineman Mekhi. He is still unsigned and I think he is really humbled. Do you think we should give him a year deal and maybe go for Bowers or WR in the draft? Or is that train long gone?
If they don't go OT in the 1st they'll be in need of a swing tackle so I might consider at a really good price. I'd be curious how the shift in blocking schemes would impact him. I get the feeling the relationship there is pretty fraught so I still doubt it
Without knowing the behind the scenes details, it really does look like Becton burned his bridges here, at least with regard to his social media posts. From blaming the Jets for mismanaging his injury, to the "I AM A LEFT TACKLE" post, to liking posts that were critical of the Jets Oline coach, I'm not sure the team wants that back in the locker room. It's probably also hindering his ability to land elsewhere.
I agree with the post above It seems like the feeling is mutual as far as us not wanting Becton back and him not wanting to be here. I think he will probably get signed after the draft for depth or some team that misses out on a T in the draft
i'll leave all of the posts out of it. it would be better if they weren't made, but Mekhi and team should work that out. Key thing in my mind was that a rookie he was dominant. there is no way to fault JD with that pick unless he's supposed to have a crystal ball about injuries team has to figure out where he is health wise and mentally and they probably have the best intel on that. I would welcome him back
Saleh: "I will walk out today if Douglas forced Mechi back onto my team" ok...not really but you all know that's what he's thinking
Nope. He was probably the worst LT in the league last year. 0 interest in him ever seeing playing time for us again.
JD can absolutely be faulted for the pick. Becton was not dominant as a rookie, he was just ok, and the guy JD passed up for him (Wirfs) was an all pro his rookie season.
Mekhi is still unsigned because he was a flash in the rookie pan and hasn't done anything of substance since 2020. He's a fat failure.
Mekhi and Zach Wilson. They are both In the same position together right now. The NYJ and JD are ready to move on from both of them. I think the majority of fans feel the same. Time to move on.
I don’t want to pile on to the guy, but he came across as immature, undisciplined and lazy. I don’t think we need to bring those qualities back to the team.
Brook! A good thought, but I just don't see that happening. I don't think he would want to come back, and I don't think the Jets want him back. As several other alluded to, his social media posts, his attitude, and poor work ethic, in addition to his abysmal play last season, pretty much mean that he should move on. It's too bad. If he had not been so arrogant/entitled, had stayed off of social media, and had worked harder to improve, then bringing him back as the swing OT on a reasonable deal with incentives would have been the way to go. With more gap plays, and the opportunity to learn from Smith and Moses, he could have potentially developed into the player JD thought he was drafting. Unfortunately, this is just another missed pick by JD and it's time to move on.
Two gigantic first round whiffs by JD. Nine picks in the 2020 draft and only Ashtyn Davis remains. That's brutal.
