The real question is why they aren't building a stadium with a dome? The weather especially late in the season can be brutal for fans and players. They have had some home games moved to Detroit over the past few seasons. The playoff game against the Steelers last year was moved from a Sunday 1:00 start to Monday afternoon.
At the very least a retractable roof. And if they end up with a good run heavy team against a warm weather team just leave it open. I wonder if they can’t build retractable roofs in cold weather like that?
I think for a multitude of reasons. The open stadium they have now allows them to have a great home field advantage in the winter. Josh is one of the only QBs who can still rip it in that weather, and teams traveling up here late in the season and playoffs have real trouble. The bills don’t want to give that up by being a warm, dome team. It’s an identify of buffalo that would just be weird if it read gone. However, the current stadium does pose problems like you said when it comes to snow. So, instead of being in a no win situation where you have to choose between being a dome team vs having weather problems, they went with an in between solution that seems to solve both issues (on paper at least). The one they are building has a roof that overhangs the fans but is still open the rest of the way, allowing for cover from snow but also still maintaining the cold. Apparently, they did a bunch of weather studies and they think the way they positioned the building, with the right angle, and right amount of roof cover, they should be able to handle the snow clearing much better but still be outdoors. Should be pretty good, we’ll see. Also, they wanted to have a grass field as most teams are moving to that now due to the injuries from turf, and you can’t have that with a dome. Also, the cost of the dome makes tickets that much more difficult to afford for the area.

Yeah Dolan blocked it there were others but he was the most prominent person. Ironically Dolan is one of the people tried to buy the Jets after Leon Hess passed away. I didn't know that the Jets could opt out of the Metlife lease after five years that's very scary. So the possibility still exists I will see my team leave NY in my lifetime.
Be thankful the Jets are still here in New York or NY market. After losing out on the West Side stadium Woody could have been a real jackass and said eff you New York I'm taking my team to (at the time) Los Angeles. Easily. Today I found out the Jets can opt out of the Metlife lease after five years to me that's frightening. The NFL is looking to go global I've read. Woody still can or he isn't going to be around forever a new owner could come in opt out of the lease tell NY build me a stadium or I'm taking my team to London or Germany or Mexico. Metlife is beautiful because my team is here (for now) because of it.
Apologies for going off topic for a bit. I'm glad the Bills are getting a new stadium if that's what it takes to keep them there. I miss the Chargers being in San Diego. The Raiders belong in Oakland I think. The Bills belong in Buffalo.
