wow…here in CA, we get those from time to time…I was here back when we had the big Northridge earthquake, which was a crazy time…can’t recall the final magnitude, but it was over 7.0 I think. Anyway, I grew up in NY…Brooklyn, Staten Island, and don’t recall ever feeling an earthquake…crazy! Hope everyone is well
I'm in the Lower Hudson River Valley, and man, did I feel it! It was totally nuts. It lasted about 25 seconds. My dog was so flipped out, he was barking and running from room to room. It was like a brontosaurus was walking outside, the whole house and the ground was shaking. I'm sure all of the Californians on here are going, pffffft! Child's play! There was another earthquake in NY in '85. I went to college in Westchester and my bed moved across the floor with me in it. Anyway, this was a 4.85.
My buddy in NYC felt it also. I was on a call and I went, "I think we're having an earthquake." "What? My girlfriend is texting me. Holy Smokes! We're having an earthquake!"
There was one in NY back in 1985 it happened in the middle of the night. Not a major one but caught everybody by surprise….
I live 30 floors up on the Hudson by Hoboken and it literally shook my entire hi rise. I called my concierge and told him to send Security to the bozo in the unit below me who's been doing renovations. Then my coworker just IM'd me asking if I felt it. Had no idea.
I didn't feel anything here in Southern Delaware, but, they felt it a lot in Monroe, NY(Orange County).
Yep, I remember reading an article that I'm pretty sure was in the Sunday NY Times Magazine around 1999-2000-2001 that there is a major fault line running through Manhattan and the Bronx, and that it's not a matter of if, but WHEN a major earthquate hits NYC, and how calamitous it would be.
