Spot on!!! IMO they shouldn't draft an edge at all unless there's some small school Edge that is flying under the radar, and then only in the 6th or 7th round. IMO with the possible exception of SS, the first four picks shouls ALL be used on the offense - 1 OT, 1 WR, 1 IOL, and if they don't sign a veteran RB, a RB. If they trade down and are able to add a 2nd pick, then either add a 2nd OT or add a 2nd WR.
I am not as schooled in football knowledge as most of TGG. I have read that Jets are building a win now team. Is this even fucking possible? This only pertains to the Free Agent signings.. I am a double Martini and a half into the day so please excuse my naievite Gin Martini: Tanqueray Gin, Martini & Rossi Extra Dry Vermouth, 3 cocktail olives (must always be an odd number), shaken, must be in an elegant glass. Prefer it a little less dry.
The Oline as it is currently comprised only has 2 returning starters, Tippmann in his second season and AVT who played all over the line for the past 2 seasons which were both cut short by injury. It's hard to imagine they will be a solid unit anytime in the first half of the season. Color me skeptical.
We have a chance, thats all you can hope for. Dark horse teams pop up every year, we have the peices it just remains to be seen if they can stay healthy. A lot of dominoes need to fall our way to go all the way but you can say that about all 32 teams, none are perfect, not even KC. They looked vulnerable last year, make it in the dance and anything can happen.
Clemons is too slow to set the edge. Teams will run that speed option play and get a solid 10 yard run easy (also I would never say that to his face. He seems angry enough)
... and not like the FUCKING NEW YORK JETS.... jesus its been a long time since this team was worth a shit...
From your keyboard to the stat line! He better... They're spending an awful lot of time on other D-Line resources when you would "think" they should be set, both starters AND backups. Not really understanding the need to look at Clowney or any other remaining FA out there.
He played a decent number of Edge snaps too and wasn't a good pass rusher. He is what he is: a 3d string depth player, who is better in the run than he is in the pass. Huff is an elite pass rusher. And Clowney is a good starting caliber player, who is a very good run defender, but also can generate good pass rush. There is a reason why we are looking at Barrett and Clowney and seem to be offering a pretty good contract. Shaq claimed that no state tax was major difference. Which means the Jets at least offered him 7 mil. Clowney appears to get 10, and the difference between the Jets and the Panther was reportedly the second year. So, the Jets are offering a 1 year deal in 7-10 mil range. This is not chump change. Which means they think there is a need there. Just because McD was drafted #15 (considered a reach by pretty much everyone) doesn't mean he solves the problem. He is also turning 25 in June. Not exactly a spring chicken. What if he doesn't explode in the second year? There is a possibility of a real problem with pass rush we may be facing. Particularly if there is an injury. Also, listening to Saleh, he seemed pretty upset in losing Huff. And JD too frankly, but he didn't want to pay. I suspect that's because he could have extended him for a lot less a year ago, and it was tough mentally to offer a contract 3 times over what he could have done just a year ago. His mentor did though. This entire Huff fiasco is a monumental fuck-up, which has not yet been mitigated at all in spite of pretty big push for the Jets to do so. I understand it is not a complete season killer as trotting out Duane as a blind side protector for Rodgers, but yet another big fuck up nevertheless, which can cost us dearly down the line.
At the risk of qualifying for AITA, cocktails without juice (e.g., martini, manhattan) are stirred not shaken. The James Bond approach -- shaken not stirred -- was part of Ian Fleming's trick to make people wonder if JB was a russian double agent (he also used vodka, came from a state run orphanage etc.)
Clowney is a Carolina kid, it was only a matter of time before he was a Panther. I’ve wanted him to be a Jet for awhile though. but Joe Douglas drafted Will McDonald so it’s time to live by his draft pick. Wasting a 1st round pick on him just to sign some veteran to start over him isn’t ideal.
