IMO the points above are not QB needs, but what every QB should expect….starting with AR on down…..and we massively failed in that area. If we don’t get that fixed we will be toast again this year no matter who is behind center and there shouldn’t be any excuse left for the leadership.
I'm getting the distinct vibe that Zach Wilson will be a Jet this year. I really hope it's only Gas..
Gosh someone has now even traded for kenny pickett (bad with a bad attitude). So far other teams have now signed up for pickett, sam howell, desmond ridder, lock, darnold, mac jones from the bottom of the barrel. Z boy is literally the most unwanted man in football. I mean anyone could take him for a 7th and $1. crickets. believe us yet truthers? or still waiting for Z redemption like linus waiting for the great pumpkin.
The Steelers tell the Jets to hold their beer and do exactly what a team needs to do when they drafted QB looks like a bust. They made the decision early, and they took action quickly. That's why they are the Steelers, and we are the Jets.
At this point it is the fear of dealing with the fifth year option of a high draft pick QB, the same reason the Bears have not been able to move Fields. If the Jets cut Zach a team will sign him the next day.
so do it then, cut him. He’s not getting that silly 5th year option here or anywhere so it’s not even an issue
This is why. Wilson is not getting traded. He will get released or won't be re-signed upon the expiration of his contract.
I wonder if they have an offer from someone, but they are trying to wait it out and get more from someone else
There’s no need to yet. If we release or keep him he counts 11.4 against the cap. The trick is trying to get a team to take on his 5.5m salary which reduces our cap hit by that amount. The problem is there aren’t any teams that want to pay 5.5m for a 3rd string QB right now, so we just wait until injuries start happening and pray we can offload him this spring. If all that fails, then we cut him.
There’s no way we’re trading Zach without attaching at least our 6th round pick. So we’d be using our 6th for 6 mil in cap space basically. Highly likely we end up cutting him. No one is taking a $5.5mil cap hit for the worst QB in the league.
actually that won’t even happen. Teams don’t want to pay 5.5m for a guy who they can’t rely on as a #2. Zach would be signed as a project to see if he has any value with a change of scenery. Bottom line is he’s not worth a draft pick at all unless we agree to pay his salary or offer picks to the team that receives him.
In retrospect, that’s a good question. I liked his film well enough to take him #2 overall, but I was clearly wrong.
It's amazing what an all-time swing and a miss Zach is. Drafted second overall and just 3 years later they can't trade him for a bag of ramen noodles.
Just keep him at this point. Maybe he'll play well during preseason and someone will get an injury and trade for him but really no reason to just cut him.
Wow! Talk about Bait and Switch? www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/jets-qb-signs-new-deal-with-nfc-team/ar-BB1jZdaz?ocid=hpmsn&cvid=3c9b80534a714291a7e90efeed2ed7e4&ei=61
