Not likely. A handful of people on this message board REALLY wanted Douglas to take Zach at #2 overall. They can't stand any indictment of Douglas for making that choice, and/or anything negative posted about Zach's awful three year tenure (hopefully ending) with the jets. I imagine they feel better putting the blame on the OC, the OL, the WRs, the scheme, the fact that he played right away, his age, you name it.
JD isn't the problem there imo. He's just the easier cop out blame target. The real problem there is that we are running the Hackett offense in 2024 come hell or high water. With an idea that a 41 Arod, 2 years removed now from looking like a slightly downgraded version of last year's Russell Wilson, is making some night and day difference not being based on any firm sense of reality. Free agency on WR has been shaping up to be nothing short of a suckers market so far imo. Jusdging from the estimates being laid out earlier. Assuming he even stays healthy we arguably don't have the current cap room left to be overspending on what in all probably will be an under utilized WR2 within what the 2 year running sample size of Hackett is telling us will at best be a turtle shell type offense running through Breece.
My friend, Carter Warren is a 2nd year pro who missed all of OTAs and Training Camp last year and then came in and was semi-serviceable for a few games at the end of the year. You don't think that's someone that we should hang on to??
Uh, I never said the jets should NOT hand onto Warren. I was answering a previous post wherein someone inquired how long do we think Douglas will hang onto Warren? My answer was quite a while because that is Douglas's history. Actually, if you research it, I applauded the selections of Tippman and Warren on this message board in 2023, after years of Mike MacMoron neglecting our OL. But I also posted that McDonald was a terrible pick that year, and I think THAT is the reason we lost Huff. And I DO think Douglas hung onto Tomlinson a year too long. He was actually worse in 2023, after he stunk in 2022.
My mistake then. It's just when I read... I just sort of infer that you view Warren and Lazard similarly. If that's not the case then I apologize.
I'm guessing that atrocious Darnell Mooney overpay yesterday broke the current WR market, and that we might now be moving on to a point of waiting for everybody's reactionary demands based on that to come down. Well, among the good team GMs at least.
I'm ok with investing more into the OL if that's the case and hope one of the stud WRs falls to 10. Probably don't have money for a big OT splash but what about a Baktiari/Becton combo signing? Not ideal but not the worst plan.
Sounds like Ridley is going to NE or JAX. "Sources to @BleacherReport: Calvin Ridley’s market has been very strong and believed to be a two-horse race between the #Jaguars and #Patriots. He will land a very healthy number. Jacksonville has made it quite clear that they love Ridley and want to retain him." Here's to hoping he stays in JAX!!
This seems to be the most likely path IMO. Sign Bakhtiari and another swing OT to cheap deals and then draft best available WR or OT at 10.
It'll be interesting to see how the reality in all this shakes out for us. Also while assuming that without a strong competitive outside interest in Bektiari that is absolutely going to happen. I'm still think making lottery ticket play for and waiting out the Tyron market should be part of any GFIN outlook atm though. Anything being prioritzed before that just amounts to reach'y fluff imo Screw that. I'm 100% on board with seeing bad team NE continuing to make all the wrong and irrational moves this winter. Starting with watching them waste that #3 pick by drafting a QB into a terrible no win situation, and which can include a massive overpay to the soon to be 30yo Ridley. Moves grounded a lot more in desperation fueled hope logic then anything stable. Bring on our new mirrored failure twin in the post-Brady Era lol (that Brissett signing was good though. bleh)
Or Bowers if the top three WRs are off the board, should still try to trade for a WR in the mean time too.
You know, with the Moses trade that might signal that the jets may NOT go OL at 10. They may go WR at 10 or better yet trade down and go OL (or WR) later in round 1 ( w some added pick(s)).
I read today that 2-3 teams are very interested in Becton. I doubt that he would come back here anyway.
