Is there anybody out there whose tired of seeing our offense go down the field on a long drive only to end in a field goal. Dont get me wrong I value the points we do get but I want to see a little more touchdowns. The first quarters of games seem to trouble us alot either we dont score at all or its a field goal. Now that the draft is closing in are there any suggestions on who we might be able to acquire??

IMO, i think we have a team very capable of scoring TDs in the redzone. The key to scoring redzone TDs is good line play, and a good TE. A good TE not only is a big target, but also frees up a WR into single coverage for a fade or a slant. So i think we have everything we need on our roster already. As the line gels more and becomes more experienced, we can send Baker out more so he can make the big plays that we've seen him make everytime he has gotten an opportunity. I'm a big fan of Chris Baker and i think, especially in the red zone, he should get more opportunities. Plus, Coles is a very good fade runner. He is perhaps the best in the league at the arm extension without being caught. I think we have everything we need to be a successful red zone team on our team already.

Im a big fan of chris baker too man the touchdown he had which they said wasnt a touchdown in the cleveland game was bull. but anyhow is chris a good blocking te? because in certain situation if they choose to run then they would have to bring in a blocking te then that kinda would give it away

Baker is a solid blocker. He's actually quite talented in both phases (blocking, recieving). He's just been underused his whole career. Definitely a solid player who is capable of putting up big numbers IMO.

I dont think we are bad in the red zone. Pennington's style works quite well, and Houston seems to be able to gain enough yards through the middle

This is what you get when you dink and dunk your way down feild. I think its more the two feild goals we came away with during our playoff game that inspired this thread!

We need a rb who can really move the pile. If we choose to use leon close to the endzone, it should be some sort of misdirection play instead of just throwing him into the line....those runs just don't utilize his abilities.

We need a feature RB, Penny has to find Baker and Cotch more in the redzone, and we will be set.

I absolutely agree with you! In this statistical-oriented society that we live in, too many alleged detractors, want BAKER replaced because his stats are not as good as they'd like. IMO the guy is a very good TE and IF he got used properly his stats would be fine!

This has been my #1 complaint about the Jets O for 3 years now. We do not throw the ball into the endzone enough.

Case in point the Playoffs this year. 3 trips inside the 20 and we did not once, not once throw the ball in the endzone. There wasn't evemn an incomlletion or an over throw. We did not throw it into the endzone. Period.

On the drive to start the 2nd half... after 12 plays (or there about) we were 3rd and 2 from the five (or so) and the incompletion to Chris Baker was at the 2 yard line. Chad has only 2 redzone INT's in his career admittedly both came this year on throws into the endzone, but so what.....You can not win games in the NFL if you do not put the ball in the endzone.

Who is to blame. Poor play calling or Chad being reluctant to throw it. I believe EVERYONE needs to get more agressive i nte red zone. If wweare gonna lose at last go down swinging

Our lack of a consistent running game killed us inside of the 10.

Improved run-blocking from our line is essential for a better RZ Offense

its not only the playoffs from this year its been our seasons for many years that when we get down inside the 20 yard line of our opposing team majority of the time we come away with 3 which to me wont win us games or push us deep into the playoffs like we would want to go ie. superbowl. when we make opening drives or in the first quarter alone we need to score td's. because this year during the middle quarters offense seemed to sputter out then we come back during the forth and try to make a comeback to win. though a valiant effort i would like for us to lead alot more games and have the other team try to play catch up .

the a valid point as well. do a running back is what we would need to make some things happen

I also think the running game is what is hurting us in the redzone. Once the field shrinks, you need to be able to pick up yards because WR's have a harder time getting open since they have less room to operate. If we could threaten teams with our run game, it would free up the WR's.

I agree that we need ot take more shots down the field. I'm starting to think its Pennington who doesn't want to take a shot down the field as opposed to the play calling, but who knows.

i hate making comparisons to the patriots but this is just a case and point here. when they played san diego last week they were down in the redzone and it had to be like 3rd or 4th down on like the 5 yard line and they were still able to throw a touchdown pass right before the halftime...

After Dillon's fumble in the playoff game, we ran twice up the middle to get to 3rd and 5, then took one shot at the end zone and the defender batted the ball down. Personally, I know a lot of people don't like him, but our red zone offense hasn't been nearly the same since we traded Keyshawn. He was money on 3rd downs and especially in the red zone. We have good WRs, but nobody who's as good in the end zone as Keyshawn was/is.

Here's the same stats from 2004 when the Jets had a healthy line.. Jason Fabini, Pete Kendall, Kevin Mawae, Brandon Moore, Kareem McKenzie. Curtis Martin led the league in rushing. Pennington led the NFL in passing until he had a rotater cuff injury during game 7 vs the Bills.

    http://www.profootballweekly.com/PFW/NFL+Statistics/Inside+the+Red+Zone/2004/17redzn.htm

Jets ranked 9th. Jets have a long way to go.
