That circles back to me again asking what anything people are asking for here actually looks like when specifically laid out in reality terms. I believe Rodgers can recruit and get OBJ in the door on something in the low risk range of a 1 year contract for $7-8m. MVS is likely in a similar ballpark. How much more are you spending on those other guys, and how much more production and schemed in opportunity value are you realistically expecting to get out of them as the #3 target option in our Hackett led offense?
How do MVS and washed up OBJ compare to a top receiver in their prime? They would not be option #3. They’d be 1B at worst. And yet again you’re talking about a one year window when I’m talking about having that player for 3-4 years throughout and at the end of their prime. The projected production difference from Higgins and Pittman to OBJ or MVS is rather obvious if you pay attention to football as a whole or simply google their production.
If it's obvious then just plainly state what you believe it ends up looking like in a working version of the Hackett offense already You also didn't address the projected cost difference.
What do you mean if it’s obvious? Have you ever watched the four players play football? Have you looked into each of their career production and their last four years of production? I’ve already said I’d be willing to pay the premium. There’s your cost differential analysis. I’m tired of having trash receivers. You’re down to revert to the days of having David Nelson as one of our top targets because it saves mythical money that we can use towards our next 3-year rebuild that Woody and friends sell the fan base on.
You said it was obvious btw, not me. I just asked you to actually expand on that. So your take here is that we can simply expect to directly copy and paste a player's exact past production that happened elsewhere on to next year's Jets team? Regardless of any surrounding differences? That really adds up as logical to you?
Not to say I couldn't see Tee Higgins replicating his 42 catch and 650 yard season from last year mind you. But I guess that is also just worth a lot less to me then it is to you. Since if we operating under the assumption that we get a working version of the Hackett offense I could see OBJ providing the same too for a whole lot cheaper. Again in an offensive system that is much much more likely to end up producing a RB1 variety fantasy season for Breece Hall over a gaudy # 1B WR after Garrett Wilson still ends up being among the lead leaders in targets again.
Disagree with some of it to say the least. First off, I don’t want to spend a ton on a WR which arguably is a number 1 elsewhere, I’ll give you that, second however, you have no clue what AR will do over the next two years, he certainly has the talent to be Brady at 41, so stop talking as if you know as an absolute fact otherwise, third, we sure as shit need a top tier number 2 WR, so we better spend some meaninful dollars there.
I argue further decline being the most probable outcome, by far, because any grounded statistical analysis or projection model is going to state the same exact thing. Regardless of how bad the Jets fanbase want to twist that surrounding reality otherwise. Rodgers is entering 2024 2 years removed from a fairly drastic decline season (that best case scenario people even want to write off completely due to a week 5 thumb injury factor Rodgers himself stated didn't really effect his play much, and which is even supported by the general lack of any real noteworthy before/after variance in the production #'s), and 1 year removed from his body giving out a couple plays into the season. If/when Rodgers' production falls farther off a cliff next season, and if/when he doesn't even manage to get through a season healthy for the 3rd advanced age season in a row....... it shouldn't rationally surprise anybody. He's 41yo ffs. We've already passed the death and taxes territory as far as 99.99% of NFL careers go. It is SUPPOSED to happen that way lol. Tom Brady was an extreme outlier. In the extreme variety mold of you don't have any similar expectations to win the $500m Power Ball jackpot because some other guy in your state happened to be the latest winner.Glad somebody at least agrees with me though that now isn't the time or surrounding team build situation where you pay out #1 type money in FA on a #2 WR. The mindset that it absolutely has to be that or it's simply not trying is just the wrong way to approach this imo.
