Yeah. It's not like Hardman is some great player, but he was good enough to help big time in SB. I understand we don't have Mahomes to feed him, but still he should have received more opportunity here than he did, and perhaps he could have helped win a game here and there. I just don't see how having him around would hurt the team and we let him go while still in contention for the play-offs. We played Uzomah out wide instead of him for Pete's sake. Not sure who is more to blame for this, FO or Coaches (ultimately they all roll up to JD anyway), but clearly this was a situation that should have been handled a lot better by the Jets.
yeah and how ridiculous is that? The "second quarter" of overtime? A quarter that is not actually a quarter of anything though because it could end at any moment. A free timeout for what reason? The NFL just has to make things weird and complicated. It also ruined the moment because Romo was explaining the rules while the walk-off play was happening that made his very explanation null and void!
That's OK. Romo would have just found another way to ruin it if he didn't have to explain the OT rules.
they did say this is a new game, before the start of OT in addition to both teams having a chance to score
How is our failure to figure out a way to utilize a guy like Hardman on the field, while simultaneously claiming a dire surrounding need for better WR play, JD's fault? You really think Hardman was brought in with a "don't even try to make this work" mandate passed along to Hackett and co? I get it's trendy among the fan base to more conveniently lay everything on JD/Saleh's feet atm, but that is just throwing in strays with the blame game finger pointing. Anything offense related this year was basically a Team Rodgers fail. A factor that isn't getting enough mention there is how that all reflects back and realistically effects us on within the free agent game too. The Jets already have enough of an underlying problem competing with other teams when it comes to face value appeal. Whether it be JD and/or whoever replaces him, you are never doing your GM any favors if/when you put them in a negotiation where the player is never going to end up picking you over an equal value opportunity offer elsewhere. Failing epically hard there on the smaller side of that equation can still add up to be just as big a deal in the big picture of team building as not being able to land that one bigger fish. Good luck finding any cheap flyers on WR that look optimistically decent on paper this winter. An old and broken down Rodgers coming back won't be enough to sell any WR we aren't a career killing destination for them atm. This will just be another factor playing into how we end having to settle on MVS (after he gets cost cut in KC) as our scripted in "big" WR upgrade addition this spring
Hackett evidently didn't like him or trust him, and he wasn't going to play him. If he didn't play him when Lazard was struggling, he wasn't going to play him. In the situation where a coach doesn't like or trust a player and isn't going to use him, then the GM might as well get something for that player. The GM could order the coach to use the player, but if the coach refuses, then the GM doesn't have a lot of recourse other than firing him, and we know that wasn't going to happen because of Rodgers.
When I said JD is ultimately responsible, I did not mean that he should have forced the coaches to use Hardman, I meant that he was responsible for selecting the coaches to begin with, who are on offense not able to get the best out of their players. Nor are they even smart enough to play better players they have. Hardman should not have been behind Cobb ever and even Uzomah on some wide out routes. I do think Hardman would eventually find more playing time when Gipson and Brownlee didn't look that good, and Lazard even worse had we kept him, but I concede this is a moot point: without a baseline minimal competence on OL we were not going to make play-offs regardless. So, from that perspective sure, we got very little something while not making play-offs either way, and maybe even helping the tank slightly. However, the putrid OL is also on JD/Saleh, and I am sure what transpired wasn't the idea when we got Hardman, who turns out wasn't nothing, while we had nothing at WR past GW.
Multiple things can be true at once. Hardman wasn’t ever going to be some of savior for the trash wide receiver corps behind Garrett Wilson that we assembled. The coaching staff should’ve thrown him in there and ran him down the field on fly routes and reverses or pop passes but were too stubborn to try. Even when we were trotting out Brownlee and Randall Cobb. Hardman is still mostly a jag. It’s cool to catch that touchdown pass but he didn’t exactly jump over Deion Sanders to catch it. He was wide open. He couldn’t really get on the field over Justin Watson or MVS this year, both of whom can’t catch shit.
I don't get the self flagellation over some JAG that was on our team for a minute... So what... we have enough pain to go around... no need to invent some more.
Of course Hardman wont bad mouth us. We paid him 3 million to win a SB with the Chiefs. If you want something to be upset about, it would be that we restructured him to go all in this year, so he dings our cap for 2 million next year. Guy caught one pass for us. Just exceptional roster management.
I heard Mike Pennel’s name called a few times at DT for Chiefs. Name sounded familiar and sure enough is an ex-Jet. Happy for him as well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Only the very best for Woody and Joe. Nothing but the absolute best. Can't wait to see what brilliance they have in store for us in 2024. The fun thing about the Jets is not guessing whether or not things will go wrong, but HOW things will go wrong.
The Jets GM signs a guy from the Chiefs for $4 Million. The Jets dont even use him. The GM trades him back to the Chiefs for nothing, essentially wasting that signing and benefiting a conference rival. He goes on to make not 1, but 2 of the biggest plays in the SB for that conference rival, including the game winner and you wonder why Jets fans are critical of the decision-making there.
It's just another in a long line of roster/team mismanagement. They'll start a guy like Boyle, who shouldn't even be in the league, yet trade away a potential contributor before actually giving that guy a chance. It's more egregious when you factor in Cobb and Lazard who contributed exactly "dick" to the organization and are STILL here. Simple lunacy! More "clown car" from the Jets!
