Fields would work for me. Unfortunately, if I were him, and the Bears stupidly traded him to us, I would sit out. If Fields thought getting his ass kicked behind the Bears line was bad wait until he comes to the Jets and gets his head handed to him on a daily basis. Fields would have to feel like he's cursed if he were to be dealt from the Bears to the Jets.

Anthony Barr I think is the name you’re looking for…and I totally agree…mid level guys will follow the money (which is why I still to this day don’t believe that we couldn’t have signed Moses if we wanted to)…but agree the top guys who are stars and want to win, will just use us as leverage

Our backup will be someone whose arm is barely strong enough to hold a Microsoft Surface.

I know we all hate Zach Wilson, BUT Zach is bought and paid for. If we cut/trade him, I think like $8 to $10 million of dead cap hits our books, thanks to his huge signing bonus as a rookie.

Now, with our cap space already low, and needing a Left Tackle, Right Tackle, #1WR (or #1bWR at a minimum) plus re-signing Huff, plus offering Becton a low-ball, team friendly deal ($12-$15 per, which he'll probably laugh at), plus AVT coming due next year, I just don't see how JoeD can swallow 8-10m just to cut a player while getting nothing in return.

Maybe put him on the Practice Squad (for real) and hope some other team takes him for their 53?

And if AR and our BUQB both go down, well....you know how that story ends~!

We ALL really need you to stop reacting rationally and jump on the crazy train with the rest of us!!! :D

It's great we all like to talk the smack but, unfortunately, your scenario is the most plausible and likely to happen. Only a truly creative coach/thinker would risk throwing those resources away to go out on a limb with something. That definitely doesn't describe our nightmare walking. They will roll into 2024 with Wilson in some form or fashion because of the numbers you exactly place up. Especially that comment about dead cap money. This team is close enough to CAP limits that this is the primary driver behind keeping Wilson.

All this angst over a backup. As if whoever,if he plays a lot, saves the season. Please.

He could have easily retired then, but he decided to come to the Jets.

LOL. Also, OLine? Where we're going we don't need OLine!

Draft Bo Nix!!! Have ARod groom him for a year maybe 2 and go from there. Most of the great QBs don’t get rushed to play and we have a rare/great opportunity to have a young talented QB learn under Rodgers just like Love. Wilson and Darnold would have been a lot better if they were given this opportunity but we rushed them to start and they got crushed both physically and mentally.

I don’t see that as a bad thing. He’s a Sr because he transferred to a program (Oregon) that was best for him and took an extra year to prove he can play. Aubern was a terrible team with one of the worst OL in the SEC but he had loyalty to the program because of his Dad. He was mature enough to realize in order to turn pro he needs to go to a better team. Nix was the best Quarterback in college this year by a large margin when you watch the film. JD, Maye and Williams weren’t better than Nix this year if you watch the tape with a non bias eye. He would be a perfect fit learning behind ARod.

I agree. An extra year or two of maturity doesn't hurt especially coming to a big market like NY. If he's successful, he'll have plenty of years ahead of him.

My only issue is that it takes a little shine off his "super-senior" season performance. How good is he really? Was he just a man playing with boys?

I think he was finally in a offence that let him play to his strengths. Like I said he was by far the best quarterback in the nation this year. His film speaks for itself. If you just watch his year and compare it to everyone else it’s just not even close. The issue is “the shine” your 100% correct. However, his Aubern experience I feel was his loyalty to that program and if he would have transferred earlier he would be considered a top 10 pick easily. His arm strength, athleticism outside the pocket, toughness, accuracy and big play ability is really impressive. He’s a combination of Matt Ryan/Justin Herbert/Russel Wilson. I think he’s going to be the best quarterback if not the best player in the entire draft. Some team in the late 1st early second is going to be extremely lucky to have him.
