I don't think this is a great record. If he had kept Reid, I suspect they'd have a couple more Super Bowls than they have--they certainly wouldn't have lost to Andy Reid last year. If he had kept Pederson, I suspect they would have won last year, and maybe this year, too. No way to prove those opinions, of course, but I felt that way at the time(s), and still think that way. I think he's cutting coaches that did work. I think that's pretty bad---not Woody bad, but quite bad.
I would tend to think hiring a coach might be something they would discuss. Did England get telephones yet?
That's all hypothetical though, isn't it? Reid was with the Eagles for 13 seasons and many times personal and professional relationships run their course and people are tired of the same faces with the same words. The fact that they were able to bounce back with extreme effectiveness after each new hire is a testament to their hiring practices.
Sure it's hypothetical. Reid and Pederson don't seem to lost their ability to coach NFL teams to a high performance level. It's true that in some situations personal and professional relationships run their course -- but I would say that is an indictment of the Eagles' ownership as well, since they are the constant in all those relationships. Plenty of personal and professional relationships can produce at the highest levels for several decades--even in the NFL.
I recommend watching Welcome to Wrexham. Lurie talks about his decision making. The guy seems great, pragmatic, and passionate, exactly what you want. Even if he wasn’t those things and was merely sober he would be better than Woody
