THIS! (which I basically posted in the other playoff thread before I saw this).... it's a greedy joke. I wonder how long until the golden goose gets slaughtered...
The only game that was entertaining was the SNF game which kicked off at 830 pm where more than half of the country has to stay up until midnight to watch it. Yes. They were miserable games.
The NFL is going to fall in love with that Monday 4:30 time slot too. I’m shocked they haven’t tried to tackle Fridays yet.
it is getting like soccer in the UK - when I was younger pretty much every single team kicked off at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon and it was great seeing all the results coming in - now I would say you are lucky if half the teams play on a Saturday and if they do there are early kick offs and late kick offs, then multiple games on a Sunday, then a game on Monday night (wonder what gave them that idea) and then more games during the week - it is rare to find any day during the week when there is not a game on just to get more TV revenues
There are already laws in place to prevent Friday games. "It is illegal for the NFL to have games on both Fridays and Saturdays during a given week due to the Sports Broadcasting Act of 1961. The act states that the NFL may not broadcast a game within 75 miles of a high school football or college football game taking place at the same time"
yeah but if they play international games then they don’t have to worry about that right? it all starts to make sense now
They are probably going to move the Bills game again this week, to Monday night some mid-week snow in the forecast and they have a short week. The Bills organization will lobby again to get it moved
It's a really interesting statute. It applies to NFL games on Friday night and Saturday only through the second week of December. That's why the league can broadcast Saturday games late in the season and during the post-season. If it wanted to, the league could schedule Friday night games late in the season and during the post-season, too. I don't think international games are an out. The statute applies if there is a high school game within 75 miles of the TV station broadcasting the NFL game, not 75 miles from the location of the NFL game. I'm linking to the statute. It's highly recommended for insomniacs. https://uscode.house.gov/view.xhtml?path=/prelim@title15/chapter32&edition=prelim '
