Just briefly, I've been tuning into the Playoffs off & on. The key I see just blaring into my face... in the playoffs, it's ALL coaching. And all I feel about this team, is a kinda dread, because they sold their sole again for an imaginary myth. They were building a decent team, with an infusion of young talent, & then it stopped. Instead of aggressively filling several weaknesses, they slowly/passively bought a myth. But I digress. Back to coaching... this team has enough talent to play far more competitive football. Watching the playoffs, I'm seeing aggressive coaching, I'm seeing passive coaching. It's not the talent winning the games, it's the preparedness, focus, passion that wins. It's neither an offensive, nor defensive philosophy... it's a holistic team approach. Then there's Robert Saleh. Is this team prepared to win games each week? Are they focused as soon as they step onto the field? I'll give passion to a bunch of players, but that passion is often wasted off-the-field. It's all coaching. So, watching the playoffs just gives me pleasure, seeing how well-run, well-coached teams do it. Then we have an owner, who like me, enjoys seeing other well-run, well-coached teams do it. And like me, does nothing to improve the team's chances of success. Of course, he could, but the obvious never occurs to him. He chooses oblivious. .
Yeah, it certainly IS refreshing to watch well coached teams with an actual PLAN behind the shit they do. I'd contend that the Jets are 100% more talented than the Squeelers and we already saw what they did to the Texans when they decided to play their annual 1 competent game. Shame, if we had competent coaching we could be enjoying a little playoff action.
"Super" Wildcard weekend hasnt been so super... and proof that adding a superlative to the name can't hide the fact that expanded amount of playoff teams has lead to shitty games. Hopefully tonight is different. Go Lions
Not sure what you want the coach to do when his side of the ball has been good, he hired someone good for the other side of the ball, and the front office forced that guy out as a scapegoat for the QB bust they drafted. Not to mention the new (and terrible) OC was hired for the sake of a 40 year old QB that the front office couldn't build a line for, and the new (and terrible) OC decided Week 1 was the time for cut blocking...
What about the teams that lost? Their coaching sucks again? Didn’t get team prepared? Put some blame on players for not executing.
Culture, Coaching, Quarterback. Those are the three key ingredients and you really need all three to have success.
I agree 100% I'm tired of the incompetence of this franchise. Cohen needs to put Douglas and Saleh on notice. A playoff mandate. Anything less than that immediate firing.
The Lions/Chargers game is what pro-ball is supposed to look like in a playoff duel. It was jarring when juxtaposed to what the Jets field year after year. I want an O-minded Coach and let a good DC do his job instead of hiring glorified DCs as a HC. It isn't a formula that pans out here. Even Fat Parcells couldn't get it done. I don't count Adam Gase as a legitimate attempt to do this. I don't know what to call that.
Not without a complete and total enema from the top on down to the 53rd guy. And by TOP, I mean specifically that idiot Owner that after 20 years still can't get shit right even with a blueprint. The Jets need a complete philosophical makeover as the one they employ now just doesn't win often enough to make the team relevant.
My new mantra: "SHOW ME THE WINS, SPARE ME THE BULLSHIT". Now there's a jingle Saleh should be using instead of the childish amateur hour ones he's used so far.
Yes, winning is rooted in good coaching. And yet so many fans ignore that fact and instead focus on the failures of this or that players as the reason the team didn't do better. When was the last time the Jets had an actual good coach? Personally I don't count Rex as he was more lucky than good by inheriting a great OL and skill players that allowed him to focus on the "D". Before him? Parcells who was too old already to really finish the overhaul he started on the culture. Before him? Walt Michaels. But based purely on W/L records only Parcells had a Plus record (Al Groh was 9-7 but he basically just inherited Parcell's effort). Is there any wonder why the Jets have been perennial losers? It's the coaching, stupid!" to paraphrase Bill Clinton. And who has been responsible for hiring coaches for this team since Werblin? Leon Hess and Woody Johnson, tow guys who together couldn't fill a thimble with their football knowledge. And as Woody allows yet another failed HC continue to work for him, and ignores the virtual bounty of proven coaches he could have right now, he reinforces his ignorance all the more. Sure, if we wait long enough, maybe Saleh will become a good coach one day, but that's highly unlikely. It's far more likely that he'll never become a good HC, at least with the Jets. If there is anything that depresses me more than Woody's failure to address this fundamental problem, I don't know what it is. Maybe it's the fans - like me - who stick with this model of failure despite all the evidence that tells us to find a new team. Really. I've been rooting for the Jets for over 60 years, since they were the NY Titans, and I still support them. At some point I have to admit to being insane. It's time for me to check into a rehab.
Dallas and Miami were massively out coached. Cleveland went completely brain dead with their game plan. So there is that. As far as players playing, the CS prepares them to be the best they can be during the week and is up to the players to execute on game time. You don’t go blaming everything on the GM like we do. Every one now is kissing GB GM while in fact the brain behind the entire operation and player development is their HC. If he was our HC, we still be playing for Pete’s sake.
We just don’t have an organization committed to winning. Whether that’s Woody pumping more money into scouting and analytics than ticket sales reps or Saleh and Hackett being surprised by Breece Hall catching ability mid-season or Micah Parsons speed. It’s not easy to turn it around for sustained winning but it is a lot easier to turn it around at least for short bursts than the Jets have been able to do. The Lions and Browns did it, but it starts with hiring at the top.
