nah, I’m not scared of Vrabel or Mayo or anything with the Patriots anymore.

They sucked forever before Belichick got there and they will suck after

Not sure vrabel is the guy. I would rather be the guy after the guy. Not the guy filling the GOATs shoes.

Hiring a 71 y.o. legend coach who has arguably lost his fastball would be a signature move for our organization. Good thing we already have our guy and he ain't going anywhere!!

    Great call.

I believe their owner is a Boston guy and went to BU as well. Their GM is super respected and bill would just have to come in and coach that roster.

The darksider of me is singing - NE get a dynamic nnew HC and a new FQB with their draft pick and a new dynasty is created - yet again we're shafted in another 20+ years.

    This is excellent news.
Will have more impact than any draft pick, and vastly increases our odds of picking up another 1-2 wins a year in near future.

Who gives a shit? Bill doesn't play the game. This team has a LOT more problems than who is coaching the Cheatriots. Right now, with this mess we have, I wouldn't put us up against anyone not named the Washington Commanders or Carolina Panthers.

The coaching carousel is fascinating this go-around. And the more interesting part is that none of these organizations want to interview anyone on the 18 teams that didn’t make the playoffs except realistically the head coaches that were let go. All of the interview lists include Ravens, Chiefs, Dolphins, 49ers, etc. coordinators.

The most desirable spots short term seem to be LA and Atlanta although as @dawinner127 LA has a cap nightmare with aging players but they have the QB while Atlanta has a good young core all around and no QB. LA also has to deal with playing on the road for every home game.

Seattle is a good landing spot as well but who can possibly top the culture Carroll had? No one except a guy whose been there which is why I think they’re a Dan Quinn or nothing kind of deal.

First of all, good riddance. That said, the Pats will never replicate what they did under Belichick and Brady. But if they hire Vrabel and draft Maye/Daniels, they may be able to get to Bills/Dolphins level and stick us in the cellar for the rest of the 2020s. I'd rather be them than us right now, let's put it that way.

Plus Carroll is sticking around SEA in some capacity. Bellicheck doesn’t want that. ATL is his best opportunity IMO

It couldn't happen to a better guy. Good riddance!

But, as many people have commented in several threads over the past few days: If the Patriots can fire a HOF coach, how does Woody explain/justify retaining a proven losing coach?

Woody is like the nerdy kid who walks into the room when they're playing Musical Chairs and stands there watching until the music stops and then makes a mad lunge for the last chair. He doesn't even have enough sense to know that he doesn't have enough sense.

    And he's our owner.

I think he'd fail in Atlanta or anywhere else where a franchise QB isn't already in place.

If Belichick goes elsewhere, it will be interesting to see if his personal coaching style still works. It sure didn't work in New England once Brady left, and his acolytes who tried that style, like Matt Patricia and Josh McDaniels, crashed and burned pretty quickly.

By all accounts, he coaches his players hard. Faint praise and loud criticism. He works them hard and is on their asses constantly. It's definitely an old-school hard-ass approach, and I can't think of many (any?) NFL coaches today who still employ that style.

In New England, it worked for years because the team won, usually going to the Super Bowl. Players want to win, and they would take it because it sure seemed to work. Brady set an example. Belichick rode him harder than any other player, and Brady took it.

Since Brady left, New England has gone 8-9 and 4-13. Submitting to Belichick's abuse no longer guarantees a Super Bowl trip or even a winning record. I have doubts that modern players in a new organization would take kindly to Belichick's ways.

same applies to pretty much every coach unless they quickly land one

To quote my long time friend and long suffering Raiders fan ( though his pain shadows in comparison to ours but we've had fun sharing the pain over 30 years of supporting our respective teams...)

I imagine the perpetually predictable weather in Nevada would appeal to Belichick.

As much as I detest the man I wouldn't fault him for taking a warmer retirement cheque (think that's 'check' to you Americans )
