Apparently the Jets finished the regular season with the PFF #1 ranked defense and the #32 ranked offense - I am no tactical genius but I think I can see where we need to focus our resources this offseason
The defense at #1 is quite laughable, frankly. Metrics aside, the eye test tells us that it's a pretty good, sometimes very good, defense that is top 10 for sure, maybe top 5 at its best, but NOT #1.
I know this is a very common rebuttal and rightfully so. However, even when the defense wasn't tired it had some issues.
We're not discussing whether they have issue like everyone else, we're discussing whether they should be ranked #1. Without even doing research, I can tell you that the Browns defense was better so it's already debunked.
Yah…I don’t know about those PFF rankings…not sure how they do that, but I would agree our D is kind of in the top 5 range probably…not sure about the BEST overall though. On the other hand, I’m perfectly aligned on our O being bottom 3. Even worst. THAT I DO believe…
The pass rush disappeared a bit at times this year more consistently than it did last year. Not sure why although it wasn’t that big of a deal. The top defense in the league by yardage and points allowed has to have some sort of streak of going to the playoffs every year, no? I wonder what PFF thinks.
I just think as its the Jets and that's who we watch we are more attuned to their failings without focusing on other teams - plus other teams we saw got to play the Jets with their abysmal offense so would look amazing regardless
I more just found it funny that based on these rankings you could be top of one and bottom of the other - it makes it a bit more Jetsy than having the 5th best defense and the 28th ranked offense
The Jets D isn't tops in the league. They have a very good D, I'd say top 5 which is legit. However they are not the best D in the league, the eye test can tell you that. San Fran is the best D in the league and the Jets would fall in the next tier after that which is still right around top 5. And you don't get rid of 25 year old pass rushing studs like Huff. They will get rid of that one dimensional lightweight McDonald well before they get rid of Huff. Otherwise they would be beyond stupid. But this is the Jets so anything is possible.
Well, when you focus on defense every year for decades, and ignore offense, what do you expect? "Defense wins championships!" Not!!! This statistic perfectly sums up the back-assward philosophy of the Jets and its futility. How pathetic.
This is exactly why they're going to do it. We are legitimately the dumbest franchise in the NFL. Taking McDonald in the first place was further evidence of that and is just one of a million examples.
If the defense is at the top and the offense is at the bottom, simple math should put the team overall right smack in the middle of mediocrity but every NFL 2023 post mortem I've seen has the Jets at 25th or worse. I guess it's not defense that wins championships after all.
