the link you posted needs a membership but didnt Harris hire the ex-vikings gm and a NBA rep to find a coach? and then a GM?....either way. What is different when woody hired Charlie Casserly and Ron Wolfe to find a coach.
That's odd - I got to see the article by clicking at the bottom of the subscription box without signing up for anything. Harris brought on people he knows and has confidence in, when Johnson brought on Casserly and Wolfe I believe they were sent to him by someone else and he didn't really know them at all. I've certainly complained enough that I don't believe Johnson really has any strong ties to other owners or movers and shakers in the NFL and his ability to network is hampered by that. As much as some people here claim he likes the spotlight and to be one of the 31 owners, except for league functions, we never see him socializing or otherwise spending time with his peers. We don't even see him having dinner with Tisch or the Maras. That represents a lot of lost opportunities to know more about what's going on in the league and who's making it happen.
To be fair, this isn't baseball where TV money is separate, market size matters, and there's no cap so an owner can bludgeon everyone with his wallet. The least of Woody's problems is money - he's got it, he spends it, it's just a nitwit. He's never bothered to get the one thing any successful football team needs: a guy who knows football and can delegate to the people who have to handle the rest.
no he doesn’t. Woody has never spent top dollar for a GM or HC. Always bottom half of the league Josh Harris will make a big hire. And as the article Ralebird shared, he will get out to the way and let that guy work
Is that because he's cheap or stupid? I will give you the head coach thing - he's hired nothing but first-timers all the way through except for googly eyes.
He has to be waiting for Bill Belichick to become available right? Arguably the greatest coach of all time is about to become available, tormednted us for over two decades and the Jets have a coaching staff with a fireable body of work. He can't possibly be this dumb. I refuse to believe it.
Does anyone remember when Woody the Cheapskate gave Wayne Chrebet a plaque @ HT during torrential rain at The New Dump? It was a Monday night game, Oct 11th, 2010, vs the Vikings. Chrebet had already been inducted into The Jets Ring of Honor in 2007, this was some good guy thanks for the multiple concussions award or lifetime achievement award . . . something. It was especially hilarious because the field and the entire stadium had to be evacuated 20 minutes before the game. A dangerous T-Storm a month into opening year of The Roofless Shithole, who knew something like this could happen? The lights partially went out, the PA Sysyem was on the fritz, and we were all in danger of being electrocuted. Of course I was shrieking like Hell. We were packed like cattle inside for cover, and it ranged from people being violently angry to busting a gut (I was the latter). "$2.6 billion dollars in a shared venue for this shit!" Anyway, come HT, it starts raining in sheets again. Half the Stadium bolted inside of their own volition, and poor Wayne Chrebet is standing in this horrific downpour trying to give a speech that no-one can hear as highlights are playing on the Jumbotron. I missed practically all of it as did at least 35,0000 other people. Anyway, Woody the Cheapskate didn't even send Wayne and his wife and kids on a nice little vacation for his CTE trouble, and this is when Chrebet was struggling the hardest with Post-Concussion Syndrome. Woody gave Wayne some cut-rate airline tickets that were probably comped to him by Jet Blue (probably also a tax write off) in 2007, so do something once, why do it again?
