Who's a better tackle? D-brick struggled more. McNeill's dad was a coach so he had to be on Mangini's board. LT did not miss a beat with him in there. The guy is more of a monster than d-brick. We could have picked him up at pick 17 in the second round last year and could have had some1 like Cutler waiting in the wings.
well, we didn't. And we'll probably pass over some great talent again, just like every team passed on Mcneil. But let's not put him in Canton just yet.
Had/has a back injury thing not sure how serious it is but I think thats what dropped him so far back. Just cuase didnt doing anythign this year all he needs to do is tweak it again and hes out of business. A
There is no doubt that McNeil had a better season than D'Brick. I remember seein something that McNeil didn't commit a penalty or let up a stat all season. I don't know how credible that stat is but its pretty incredible. You can't go back in the draft and say things like you said. If we wanted to do that we could say that we could have drafted Colston in the 7th.
Man you people just live in hindsight at all costs...Saying what the Jets could or shouldn't of done, jeez. McNeill has the better rookie season, no doubt. But that still doesn't take away the fact that D'Brick got some valuable experience starting every game while going up against dominant pass rushers, doing a fine job. Now later in the year he faltered and lost weight. But 1 season does not merit this hindsight bullshit.
McNeils injury isnt something he can "tweak" per say, I dont believe. He has like a weakening of the spine condition. Where it's like smaller than normal or something like that
What about the people that said it before the draft? If DBrick is not the best OL from the draft than he was a bad pick. It is to early to judge but I'll tell you, DBrick hasn't done anything to justify passing up one of the top Qbs last year..
Yeah can you believe we wasted a pick on Brad Smith when Marques Colston was clearly better and available?
McNeill obviously had the better season but I don't really think hes too far ahead of D'Brick, he might just be a slow learner adjusting to the NFL
I think more of it has to be attributed to the fact that D'Brickashaw needs to get bigger. McNeill was able to dominate right from the start, because he was just as strong as most NFL defensive ends if not stronger. D'Brickashaw needs to add size, but I'd say he had a very good year pass protecting. The only game he really struggled was against Aaron Schobel, primarily because of his size/speed, and D'Brick couldn't handle it yet.
I don't think Brick played bad this year, I dunno why everyone here doesn't like him. McNeill played better this year, but I think in the long run Brick will be the better player.
Well, if you go back to the draft threads I think you will find some posters who felt D'Brick was light, a weak run blocker And not necessarily that Mcneil was a lock, but the draft was deep on the OL and there was an opportunity to build the OL AND add a top player. Ferguson was a safe pick and hometown good guy, hard to fault it.
Big thing here is to compare the schedules and the Ends that each guy faced. DBrick was tested over and over, McNeill had a great year, but at the same time he was in a great situation to do so.
Guys, most of us should've known that the first 2-3 years of Brick are going to be like this. The man's potential is through the roof, and with added wieght and once he gets taught some run blocking technique, he'll be unstoppable. However, coming out, his two biggest problems were his need for size and to learn better how to run block. Neither of those things happen overnight. Plus, he's playing one of the hardest positions in football. McNeil has been superb this season, but as stated earlier, he has a pre-existing spinal condition that has no chance of getting better. Add on top of it that he's a mountain of a man and very tall and his back gets a lot more stress that most would. He may get lucky and be able to play through the next 10-15 years, or his injury could come up and he could be out of football as early as nex year.
Injuries are exactly what determines where a player will be drafted in there career. Some players get drafted later and some players don't get drafted at all. Marcus McNeill was after all a top 50 pick and he is headed to the PRO-Bowl. The JETS drafted D'Brick because he was a can't miss pick with the POTENTIAL to be an elite player down the road when he puts on weight, keeps the weight on, and develops better in the running game where he is not particularly strong as of yet. If you look at it, D'Brick was the first pick in Eric Magini's regime and was the safe pick by many scouts and is the face of the JETS offensive line along with Nick Mangold. Sure the JETS could have done a bunch of different moves but they can't change their past draft picks good or bad. They can only look to the offseason for the players to get better and the organization as well.
We Got: D'Brick - Mangold - Kellen Clemens We Could have had: Leinhart - Mangold - Mcneil It might work out for us in the end but, there's no way in hell anyone swaps those guys today.
This is not really true. If we wound up selecting Leinart first the whole draft plays out differently. You can't change one pick and assume that the rest will remain the same.
