Saleh and it isn’t close for me. Rodgers is to Hackett as Peyton was to Gase. Won’t even matter next year because Rodgers will call all his own stuff. Douglas firing doesn’t get me Saleh fired and then we’re forcing that incompetent HC on the new GM. We’ve seen that before and it doesn’t work.
Douglas for me - the coaches are largely dependent on the talent on the field to find success (especially the QB) and the Jets have very little (at least on offense) - every coach the Jets have had has struggled and not one of them hads ever had a great QB to work with - coincidence? Look at the genius BB without Brady.
Saleh, Hackett and Ulbrich should all be a package deal so it’s really Saleh vs. Douglas. And if you fire Douglas, you better fire Saleh or else you get a Rex must stay so we get the 81st best GM option on the open market in John Idzik.
You should have asked the question differently. If I were you, I would say "Who sucks the most?" If that was the question here is how I would rank from worst to best. Hackett Saleh Ulrich Joe D
Douglas. The coaches aren’t about to mortgage the future while also passing on a QB. The coaches at worst would give us one bad season. JDs actions/inactions in 2024 may ensure we suck for years to come. Being a lameduck, he is fully incented to go all in, with no organization oversight looking at the future ramifications. Hackett is terrible too tho.
It's Saleh for me and it ain't that close. If Saleh goes, so do Hackett and Ulbrich anyway. So as @Jonathan_Vilma pointed out, this is essentially Saleh vs JD. JD's been pretty poor so far but he does at least have the '22 draft class under his belt so we've seen him perform his job at an elite level, albeit in a small sample size, and we're yet to see anything even remotely close to that from Saleh.
not with the worst QBs in the NFL - it is no coincidence that every team that has failed to make the playoffs at this point also have the lowest rated QBs in the NFL (or have a decent QB that got injured too soon like Herbert and Burrow). The Browns are the only team to have clinched a playoffs spot without a top rated QB on their roster so hats off to them.
I voted Hackett but these are good points. I will say, any non-Douglas answer terrifies me because it seems like he just has a complete blindspot for the OL. He's been here for years and our OL is somehow even worse than the terrible OL he inherited when he started. It says a lot about our team that this is such a difficult choice in the first place. It's almost impossible to choose which of our 3 most important coaches/execs deserves to be fired the most.
JD 1. Striking out on the #2 pick with Wilson. 2. All of these years later and he still hasn't built an OL.
Douglas is the obvious answer. He manages the roster and it's his ultimate decision on all player personnel via draft and FA. He has clearly failed in both of these areas and needs to be shown the door asap. I cringe at the thought of him being given another draft this spring. We could've had a top roster by now if he didn't f*ck up most of his 4 drafts. There is no credible or tangible evidence that leads me to believe this offseason will be any different with Douglas at the helm. The Jets need someone who can evaluate college talent and has a plan/blueprint for building a winning franchise with sustained success. Douglas' resume as GM grossly illustrates that he has failed in both of these areas.
Hackett. Last game it was like watching the same play every down. Pass short of the line to gain, pass short of the line to gain, pass short of the line to gain. I get that the Browns have a great defense, but you gotta get a little bit creative there. It's like they completely gave up on the game in the 4th and were just playing to survive the day and go home. I get that you can't completely blame him because of the oline injuries / ineptitude combined with the weak QB play, but as an OC you have to design the offense around what you have.
