It's not unusual for teams to load up on talent, make a run, fail, then re-set. Cast off some of the expensive talent and try over. Isn't this what we're hoping happens to the Raiders with Adams?
When was the last time the Jets traded back one of their top 2 or three draft picks to grab more picks?
I am fairly optimistic about this organization and this is as down as I've ever been with the outlook and future vision.
This 100X I've been saying it since the day Hackett got hired and started the ball rolling down to it's inevitable destination, and I'll say it again until the day it most certainly *will* become a universally shared belief as people sober up to all the BS that was infected into their brains leading up to this season : Abandoning the rebuild to go chase after Rodgers this past winter was the 40 year low point for this franchise. Most of us posting on this board will likely be dead and buried before whatever GM far far down the road lucks into another building block opportunity window as good as that one. In that respect it was the ultimate betrayal as a lifelong fan of this team in my book. Period
Right there with you. And what's worse, people want them to abandon the abandon of the rebuild. At this point you have to finish what you started, and it either results in a championship, or the slate is wiped clean. Can't go in the direction you went, and then backtrack and start to build again. As one of the greatest shows of all time has taught us, no half measures.
Agree, finish what we started. The frustrating part is its not to late to pivot back to what we were building. But Woody seems determined to keep going all in on our current plan, that nobody in the league believes will work anymore. And its not like JD, Selah, and Rodgers are going to tell him different.
I'd be honestly curious how you think we can go back to that plan? I feel like once they traded the draft picks and hamstrung the cap for next year, it was a one way street. Forgetting for a second whether Woody would allow it, you've got carte blanche - what's your suggestion?
It's too late. There is just too many wasted opportunity timeline aspects that have now realistically been pushed too far back in relationship to best capitalizing on having all those studs on rookie deals. Things which were still always going to have to break somewhat right in favor in the big picture goal to at becoming a well run franchise. From needing to hit on that new OC hire and get the forward progress finally rolling in the right direction there (that got pushed 2 years away at the earliest), and down to the now 2 year punt we have to sit through before we can even potentially try to hit on a low asset cost free agent QB option (that no small amount of teams making playoff runs of their own this year have managed to do btw. it's hardly just clev) capable of at least being adequate enough in that new system to make a legit playoff hunt run. Too many chips got pushed all in on a loser bet that was essentially going to offer zero flexibility in the event you had to make any post-bet adjustments to that plan. It's worth playing out at this point just for the "it'll more interesting to watch the games then the alternative" appeal, but it's not going to get us anywhere and by the time all of that bad washes itself out we'll more or less be back to square 1.
JD has made mistakes and probably deserves to lose his job, but I think this coaching staff is the far bigger issue. There are just too many instances where the Jets are beaten before kickoff because the other team has better preparation/plan. Saleh’s divisional record is an example of this. He can’t beat BB despite having more talent, McDaniel embarrassed him this year, and after having Josh Allen’s number the Bills adapted and schooled him.
