Come off a HUGE playoff win.... then come out FLAT in Pittsburgh But It would be fun for awhile.... which is more than we've had in quite awhile.
Whoever comes in here has to be smart enough to know we need a competent OLine. ESPECIALLY if he picks a QB. Not having a second round pick sucks but it's not the end all be all. Again new GM has to improve the line right away. It is possible to have that done AND still draft a QB. And if so that will make us competitive next year. Whether you call it all in or not, the point is that it is possible to have a winning team next AND draft a QB. Depending how this team does, the new GM might even do a trade mid season using 2025 assets to improve for 2024. It's not a message board hypothetical, this was done by the GMs of winning organizations - TB invested a high pick in a QB and won, GB did it, Rams traded picks. New GM or drafting a QB doesn't mean we have to be losers next year.
I didn't say we had to be losers, And you're using examples of teams that kept their front office intact but decided to trade the future for a chance to win now. You have to make up your mind, my man. Keep the regime and try to win? That's one of the options I gave you. Besides, the Jets already tried to cash in the future for the QB, but in true Jetsian fashion, it not only didn't work but blew up in their faces.
You CAN'T pick a QB this year in the draft... You absolutely CAN NOT. Why would you? To Continue the cycle of stupidity and ruining your young drafted QB's that you can't protect? We already have a 40 year old, basically handicapped, QB that will need protection who likely WON'T make it through the season because they cant protect him and now he's compromised physically. Knowing that, you want to be putting your top 10 pick on the field behind WHAT? A HS Line?? The top 5 to 7 pick needs to be the best LT on the draft board (And Joe D's Draft Board when it comes to O-Line is a crap shoot) - it absolutely HAS to be O Line in the first Round. I even see what I can move to get back into the 2nd round without giving up my 3rd rounder to get ANOTHER O Lineman in the top 50. I spend on a Legit 2 WR in FA. QB - would be the dumbest pick they can make at the top of this draft. The Definition of Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting the same result - how many times we have to ruin a top 5 to 10 QB because we haven't develop any semblance of good O Line...
I agree - I think it's foolish to take another QB early in the 1st for the 3rd time in 7 years. But if you blow everything up and fire JD and everyone on down, the new guy is almost definitely gonna take a QB. If you don't clean house, there's no way you even think about it. 100% agreement on that. I've been saying that all along.
Even a new regime would HAVE to see what is here and if they still think you need to draft a QB in this draft, you hired the wrong guys again... Very Jet Like
I just don't think it's one or the other. In fact keeping current regime and trying to win is not an option for me, because the current regime are proven losers. New regime and try to win next year. If a QB is there you think will be amazing (KC example with Mahomes), draft him to sit behind AR while still trying to win next year. There are assets to improve OL to be non terrible even with QB as a first rounder and no second round pick. And that would make us competitive next year. We could tag and trade Huff, we would definitely trade Zach if we draft a QB, and yes, trading a future pick (non 1st rounder) to improve the line is an option too. I just don't understand your point of it has to be either we try to win with current regime or we build for the future with next one. It does not have to be. A new regime can win next year while still building for future, just like every smart GM would.
Carr was right three times yesterday - and that's just his touchdown throws. 14 games, 16 TDs, 7 Ints and 6 fumbles is something the Jets can only aspire to. He's no superhero but when's the last time the Jets had those kind of numbers? He might even hit the field in a playoff game this year, if you can remember what that is. Such "trash".
That would be like the Yankees and Billy Martin. Bring someone back from the glory days and hope to repeat! Only the Jets glory days were just a flash in the pan and not ever even that glorious.
Of course not - we haven't been tortured enough over the years. "The beatings will continue until the morale improves!"
And if there really are no qb's they like, they can still get a hell of a lot better on the O Line and compete with Rogers starting and a competent backup. If they're going truly all in: 1. Don't draft a quarterback 2. Draft a tackle with the 1st round pick 3. Fix the rest of the O Line through trades or free agency 3. Get a legit #2 or #1a Wideout 4. Get a competent backup quarterback 5. Whatever you do, and even if you do nothing else, make sure Zach Wilson is GONE. They should have moved off of him after the 1st preseason game in 2022. The Niners got rid of Lance when they realized he sucked, the cardinals ditched rosen when they realized he sucked, but for some reason the Jets can't move off of one of the biggest bust draft picks in the history of the league.
There is no need to concede that any new QB would by default be forced onto the field their first year. That kind of planning was key to the results garnered here for a couple of cycles.
I'm not telling you my personal preference, I'm speaking based on 40 years of watching how these organizations operate, and the last 15 of them with the Jets living in their own world. If you fire everyone, the new guys want their team in there. Very little chance you can get anyone worth anything to come in and continue someone else's plan. It usually doesn't work that way. That's gonna be some bum desperate to take any NFL job and we'll be having this same conversation in 2-3 years.
The Jets are a dumpster fire and all of the good candidates watched that dumpster fire this year. Ben Johnson as an example turned down better situations last year to stay with the Lions. Any head coach and GM who would come here get strapped to the SB or bust bullshit with a 40 years Rodgers off an Achilles injury with a broken roster that clearly wasn’t SB ready and may not have even been playoff ready. Why would that draw the best candidate when Washington, Chicago and LAC all offer better situations from an assets standpoint (Washington and Chicago loaded with picks, LAC have a decent roster and franchise QB in place) and no pressure to try to salvage Rodgers last stand?
Its defined by what's on the Roster - and common sense. So basically, what you (or some) are suggesting is that they DRAFT a QB in the top 10 this year, pay and play Rodgers and his Salary, plus add the HIGH first Round QB's Salary, PLUS a VIABLE EXPERIENCED option at B/U AND absorb the cap hit for jettisoning Wilson - for when Rodgers inevitably gets hurt behind the non existent O Line... That line of thinking Ties up like 60 to 80 Mil of your cap (maybe more) while NOT adequately addressing the O Line - meaning, you hired the new guy, same as the old guy - another bumbling idiot. It has to be O-Line this year if Rodgers is here - if he goes, and you get rid of the shit show F/O and coaching staff - then all bets are off and you strip it down and NO ONE is untouchable, Everyone can be had, and ya start from ground zero.
