After recently being cleared to practice, New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is likely to be medically cleared to play this week upcoming, league sources told ESPN.
But being medically cleared doesn't necessarily mean that Rodgers automatically will take the field on Christmas Eve against the Washington Commanders.

Rodgers and the Jets organization still need to get together to discuss if returning next Sunday is the next step they want to take. Much could depend on the outcome of the Jets' Week 15 game Sunday in Miami against the Miami Dolphins and if New York still has any chance -- even infinitesimal -- of making the postseason.

Rodgers has acknowledged that he won't be 100 percent until after the season but has said he'd be willing to play if the Jets are in the playoff race. The four-time MVP has also said it wouldn't "make a ton of sense" to return if the Jets (5-8) are mathematically eliminated.

But the fact that Rodgers, 40, is even in position to be medically cleared from a torn Achilles than he suffered four plays into the Jets' season opener just over three months ago is something of a medical miracle.
Jets coach Robert Saleh said Friday that Rodgers looked "normal" earlier that day in practice and remarked that his speedy recovery was "unbelievable."

If he were to play after being medically cleared -- and there are significant questions that both sides still will have to address and answer -- Rodgers would return to play faster than almost any athlete in memory. Running back Cam Akers returned from a torn Achilles in just over four months during the 2021 season as a member of the Los Angeles Rams.

Rodgers was said to have two impressive days of practice in the last week, leaving his coaches and teammates thoroughly pleased with what they saw. But Rodgers also didn't have to elude any oncoming pass rushers, escape from the pocket, or do some of the things that he would be forced to do in a real game.
The Jets have until Wednesday to activate Rodgers to their roster; if they don't make that roster move by Wednesday, Rodgers cannot be activated this season. It's also possible that they would activate him by Wednesday but not play him against the Commanders.

In short, if we win the Dolphins game and both Houston and Cleveland loses their games Jets will have over 20% chance to make the play offs if they win out.

Miami game means more than I thought

All the “Rodgers is a self centered prick” crowd has been saying for weeks that it is Rodgers’ goal to “medically” “prove people wrong” by being medically cleared but then not play, using the fact that the jets are out of it as an excuse, but then will be able to say for the rest of his life that “he did something no one thought was possible.” We’ll see if it plays out that way.

The Jets are such a sideshow franchise it's disgusting. Rodgers quickest to make return ever. All this bs just gets so old. The Jets are not a very good team. Rodgers premature, risky return is not going to change that, it will just make them a little less shitty. It's a ratings ploy, nothing more.

Of course Jets brass wants to stay relevant so they put out garbage like this. I'm sorry but no other franchise would do something stupid like this. Clearly Rodgers is calling the shots. This is such an ill advised move it's not even funny.

Also, on a related note - Have the Jets/MetLife and I guess the Giants agreed to switch the field to natural grass? If not, what is the reason? They couldn't have done so in-season after the injury in Week 1?

I find it highly inexcusable that a Multi Billion dollar franchise doesn't make the easy, necessary and medically far safer move of putting natural grass down? It's not like they can't afford it. So what gives?

Something's not right if they don't change it.

Have you watched any other games this year? The 49ers are the only very good team in the entire NFL. Everybody else is pretty damn close-- the Eagles and Cowboys are barely better than the Panthers and Patriots, everybody is a player or two apart. Injury luck is by far the biggest separator in the league.

*Edit: And officiating and/or lack of officiating is the biggest decider of games.

Like it or not, a motivated and somewhat defiant Aaron is the best version of himself.

I for one do not want him to take a snap this year, behind this line.
Ownership could effectively lose a fan base for 2 years.
With this ownership, I wouldn’t rule it out!,,

If he’s on the football field of course. A defiant Rodgers does us no good carrying a clipboard

weekly updates from a player out for the season is useless

First off every team in the league has to deal with injuries and bad officiating. Those are secondary reasons. The main factors are what happens on the field of play, end of story. You mean the same Cowboys team that boat raced the Jets earlier this year? I've watched enough to know that the Eagles and Cowboys are vastly better than the Pats and Panthers and they are not close at all. Don't let the small sample size of Wilson last week fool you. Look at the overall body of work. The Jets offense is basically abysmal this year and Wilson will revert back to his ugly ways down in SoFL today.

If he plays, I hope he's 100% capable of sustaining the hits he's sure to take. It would be SO SOJs for him to return and get reinjured 5 plays into the game, and effectively ending his career. The infinitesimal chances of the Jets making the playoffs is not worth that at all.

    @JetsNation06 @broomulack @stinkyB

That's cool -- if you all think you are seeing a lot of good football being played in 2023, I think you're as nuts as you appear to think I am.

I see an entire league of teams that all look like bottom feeding garbage.

Seeing good football, or anyone insisting that the quality of teams in general is as good as it has been in the past, is one thing. Saying the Cowboys and Eagles are barely differentiated from the Patriots and Panthers is a whole other level.
