Rock bottom is an amazing development of character. I work and volunteer quite a bit in addiction rehabilitation. True rock bottom not only means the world around you has crumbled, it’s a feeling that the ability to regain any semblance of yourself is gone for good. It’s a full on feeling of humiliation that the world is not just pointing and laughing, it’s literally leaving you behind as worthless. At this stage in the field of recovery I see one 3 things- sometimes they just give up entirely and choose to live out their life at rock bottom. The other two both involve rebounding, but the level of acceptance is what truly determines how far and high they soar. Some rebound showing the world that doubted them that they can do it. The satisfaction of the acknowledgment from society that they can change seems to be enough. They have a short lived moment of excelling before being content they’ve proven the point and fall back into their old trappings. On the other hand you have some who became so deeply determined that proving the world wrong becomes a daily habit. Take Tom Brady, he never ever let go of the resentment of being drafted so late. Even after retirement he still goes on about how important it was to show the NFL they were wrong 6 times over. He put his foot on the throat of those who doubted and never let up. What encouraging to me is it’s clear Zach hasn’t given up. He basically said fuck it and did it his way with nothing to lose, and he was successful. How long he’s successful is determined by his personal satisfaction of proving his point. If he feels now that he’s made his point then he’s going to fall back into his old self. If he carries a career long chip on his shoulder to keep proving something years from now to those who doubt him today, to proverbially put his foot on our throats forever, then you may have the makings of a champion.
Zach wins AFC Offensive player of the week. Someone in the league office read that article - or am I mistaken and it's from votes cast by you fellas? Another example of what a F'ed up season it's been.
I give Zach all the credit in the world for toughness - he's been under an unimaginable amount of pressure the last year plus and he seems to have matured and is handling it extremely well. Last year after the New England game, I was done with him and based on his comments would never have thought, ever, that he could be where he is off the field. He's truly imposed me and made me a fan of Zach Wilson the person. I still don't see it happening on the field, but I'm rooting for him.
There are two things people saying maybe we keep Zach are overlooking: 1. We need draft picks. 2. Zach wont want to resign here. He hasn't exactly loved his time here. He'll get out of NY at the first opportunity, and I'm sure his mom agrees. The only thing Zach has left to offer us is draft picks.
Well I just watched the game as I was traveling on Sunday, and man…I just can’t believe he actually looked like a real bonafide NFL QB! I think it was probably his best game of the year…pretty much a complete game, and exactly what I was looking for when I kept saying, hey, let’s see a flash…let’s see just ONE complete game…300 yards, multiple TDs, no picks. and we got that. I don’t even get too down on the fumble honestly…sure he should have just slid, but he was trying to make a strong play and took a hit. He took several hits that game actually and bounced back. But some beautifully placed throws to the sidelines, into tight spots, perfectly placed balls down the seam to Conklin, got Ruckert involved, used Breece as the checkdown at the right timing to let him run and break plays…just pretty much ticking all the boxes. I have no idea where that all came from because we’ve not seen it all year. Crazy. So hats off…THAT was the game I wanted to see from him. As to the future, I think there’s still no way we exercise his 5th year option…but I do think the next 4 games will go a long way to helping us decide what to do. And if he plays well and looks like he did on Sunday, then it’s all a win win for everyone. Trade him for better value? Great. If he really does play like this for 4 more games and we win say 2 or 3 of them, I wouldn’t be shocked to see JD keep him on the cheap next year. Will be crazy. So yah, one game doesn’t erase 20-something shitty ones in anyone’s book, but the interesting thing is that with him, it hasn’t really ever been about a lack of physical talent…he’s got the arm, he’s athletic, kid can take a beating, etc….with him its always been the mental aspect of the game and the lack of consistency. One game doesn’t erase that, but shit, 4 more games like that would at least make you stop and think about it. Will be interesting to watch, but for now, as much as I’ve bashed him and hated watching him play, I have to also give credit for Sunday’s game as it was really good.
That was funny. I laughed right out at the "picture" of poor Randal Cobb looking older than Moses. lol!
I would find it highly unlikely that any team gives him a starting position based off of 5 games. Best case scenario for him this offseason is someone trades for him as their high-upside backup.
Agreed, no chance he gets a starting nod. However, the league knows the Jets are a graveyard for offensive players, QBs in particular. Some offensive minded coach out there will take a shot at him as a backup or reclamation project just based on his talent + the dreadful coaching/development he's gotten. That's if never played here again before the Houston game. No one would give up much because they wouldn't have to, but there would be interest in a kid with his skill set and clear resilience. If a moax like me is impressed with his improvement off the field in a market like this, an NFL coach will be as well. Never have the famous lyrics "if you can make it there, you'll make it anywhere" rang more true. If he plays very well, he may actually create a market where we can get a decent return. Fingers crossed.
Here is the thing about that. If you make any player play before they are ready, you will have shitty performances. Ignore the 1st two years. Zach wasn't ready to play. I mean he looked worse than Streveler at the end of last year. This year though I see the growth. This is not first great game he had. He also had one against the Chiefs. And interestingly he had the best game of his career after actually sitting for two games and watching, which was the idea before the season - remember the rid shirt year. In many ways this is what his rookie season should have looked like: sit for a while and learn, then come in when more ready. I mean the guy hasn't even played in P5, and he immediately has to start in NFL with the OC, who expects a competent QB play and doesn't have any experience himself to develop young QBs. This hurt Zach, but it also hurt the Jets. Right now though he is in a different spot than at the same point last year. The game he just had - this was elite level performance, and this was the best performance of any QB last week. What makes it really elite though is that he had no line. People say, finally we had adequate QB play, but that's not true. To overcome this line, it was an elite QB play, not just adequate. The only guy who did this on consistent basis that comes to mind in recent history was Joe Burrow. But at least Joe had two #1 receivers when he did it. We have GW as #1, and then the next guy is really #4, not even #3. We don't have starting caliber receivers on the roster, even 3d string, aside from GW. This is why JD's handling of the situation makes me so mad. To botch OLine like this yet again and not even find #2 or 3 WR in a year where we were supposed to be contending is so infuriating and is a fireable offense IMO. If we had a good line and another WR, things would have been so much different. Rodgers may not have gotten hurt and if he did other QBs would have more of a chance. Even Flacco is doing decent behind a good line - remember how he looked against Miami last year? Having another decent QB like Wentz instead of Boyle/Siemian so Zach maybe could sit earlier and maybe not lose every game when he sat, wouldn't hurt either.
This is the play I've seen numerous times on several sites. Probably one of his best passes ever. Yes, he threw a 'dart' as you say, but it was a spectacular, 'Zach at his best' throw. Z spun out of the pocket (how he got away was amazing) and was running towards the left sidelines....pulled up and launched a rocket, throwing back across his body 25 yards to the middle of the field. Garrett had the ball come right to him, in the rain, standing in the middle of 3 defenders. This throw kind of reminded me of that throw he made at his pro day...running left, throws 50 yards across his body. I'll look for it (his texans throw) on utube.....I'll add it here if I find it! Also, good write up, once again. 6:09 mark Jets' offense feasted on quick 'flip throws' to Breece Hall. Tons of fake handoff to Hall, followed by a short pass to Hall, who caught it in open space and ran for another 5-10 yards. THESE ARE THEY TYPE OF PASSES ZACH WAS 'DIRTBALLING' HIS FIRST 2-1/2 SEASON. Seeing Zach stepping up and making those easy passes look easy, over and over, was the best thing about this game.
I could see a team going for him to compete. like the bucs. doesn't seem like trask has impressed them and baker is a FA. they could go for zach and baker and have a camp battle
I dont care who trades for him but if they want to give him a "camp battle" for the starting job we can all laugh and expect a nice return. that's win win right there
I don't think the Jets/Zach story has been written yet. I could be wrong. Certainly, if it's true that Saleh "hates" him, then I'd say that clinches him being traded after the season. But what if JD - or Woody - decide that Zach has more upside than Saleh? Then Saleh's gone and Zach stays. Or, maybe the "Saleh hates Zach is BS", in which case I'd say since it's up to the team what happens to him, he'll be here next year. The question then is: In what role? I think will be determined by how he plays these last few games. If he turns in a couple of VG-Great games, then I'd say he's odds on to be the #2 QB, and they might draft a QB to groom behind Zach, planning on him exercising his FA. If he splits them between "old Zach" and VG Zach, then maybe they get a vet to be #2 to ensure that Zach can actually sit and learn this time. As to Zach deciding to leave, again that will be driven by how he plays these last few games, and then next year however much he plays. If he makes a strong showing, the Jets might have to decide if he's their FQB after Rodgers. If so, they're probably going to have to pony up some money to keep him from going elsewhere. Of course, if he reverts to "old Zach", the decision as to what to do with him will be easier. although it will still leave a huge question about who the QB will be.
it's BS. joe B already apologized for saying that and said he was wrong. what happened was joe B said start wilson and saleh said "are you kidding me" which he meant at joe B since he's been telling him to bench zach all season but joe B said he meant it as wilson because it hates him. it was a stupid leak that most of us guessed what was meant. this is why some people here really need to stop feeding into media BS. they are getting you (not you but some people here) all pissed off and riled up while collecting money off their lies.
For sure... Zach has value. Especially if he closes out this season strong. He may be considered a bust in NY... but he's got enough chops to have a nice NFL career.
Today's sports "news" is mostly sports gossip and speculation. Social media made things bad since so many "reporters" compete to break a story and get attention, and now sports gambling becoming commonplace has probably made things worse since the audience is very thirsty for news to get an edge.
