All-22 looks at this one here. Ultimately an incompletion so can't go too crazy about it but it was almost an incredible play by both ZW and GW.
All-22 looks of this one here. Again, nothing too crazy but major props to the OL for giving him this clean of a pocket. Zach has a good base and delivers a strike to GW.
All-22 looks of this one here. His ability to pull plays like this off was why Zach got drafted 2nd overall. If he could do things like this on a consistent basis, he'd be a top half of the league QB, maybe even top 10. He's just never been able to consistently put plays like this on tape.
All-22 looks at this play here. Zach loves these seam balls to Conklin. Let's hope Hackett keep dialing them up and Zach keeps hitting them because they're a thing of beauty.
All-22 looks at this play here. Excellent touch to layer this ball in this window, over top of the underneath zone defender. Also, a great example of Zach developing from a processing standpoint. You can see him start left, go to Yeboah on the stick nod as his 2nd read, and then ultimately get to Ruckert as his 3rd read.
My take on Zach if he puts together a string of games similar to this one you keep him as QB 2 next season and he will most likely play as AR will be 41. If he reverts you trade or cut him and bring in a Vet for next year and we start looking for a young QB again. For the group get rid of him even he plays well, then what? Watch him succeed someplace else?
Zach Wilson has won AFC Offensive Player of the Week for his performance against the Texans! Even if he's all but gone at the end of the year, I'm happy he gets something like this on his way out. Hopefully, this gives him some more confidence to keep playing this way down the stretch.
It feels like both sides are ready for a split at this point but I agree. If he plays like he did against the Texans for the next 4 games (or fewer if Rodgers actually comes back), I'd strongly consider keeping him as the back up next season. A string of 5 straight games of playing at a high level could mean he's turned the corner.
Wilson wasn't the only local QB to win. NY, NY: Tommy DeVito and and Zach Wilson are the NFC and AFC Players of the Week. — Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) December 13, 2023
Stop with AR coming back. It is not happening. It will be just like the Jets to get rid of the kid just as he turns the corner for 1 year AR rental and we start the search all over again for a QB.
Rodgers is crazy enough to do something like this so I'm not putting it past him and Woody is fame/attention hungry enough that he'd be willing to let Rodgers come back to sell more tickets/merch/etc. It's the perfect storm. To be fair, I also think it's highly unlikely he comes back this year but I don't think it's impossible.
Until this past week, in his 3 years in the league he has never had more TDs than INTs for the season. There is no chance he is back next year. The best case scenario is that he plays well enough to create some value so Jets can clear 11.5 mill to sign a tackle or backup QB. I'm happy he balled out Sunday and I hope he absolutely mashes vs Miami, but his career is over here. It should have been over after the Jax rain game when he was benched for Streveler. The Jets aren't going to pick up the 25 million 5th year option for 2025. They need a real veteran QB as the BU next year (Tannenhill?) + draft a day 3 developmental guy who doesn't see the field (Pratt).
As funny as it is, it's surprisingly plausible lol I could definitely see that being what happened or something very similar to it.
Would we want him to come back this year. Rodgers is an all-time great. A slam dunk future first ballot HOF inductee. But he is 40 and hasn't played all year. He would be in training camp-preseason mode at this point. Everyone else has been playing regular season football for 4 months. Add in the fact that the OL still blows which could lead to him getting hurt again. I don't think he is coming back. No way his Achillies can be fully healed in this short amount of time.
The most they can clear off their books next year is ~5.7M and that's if they trade him to a team that agrees to pick up the rest of his contract. Jets are on the hook for the remaining amount (~5.4M) no matter what. They're obviously not picking up his 5th year option but that doesn't mean they wouldn't keep him for next year and see how it plays out.
This is the million dollar question. It's really all going to come down to Rodgers and his doctors. If they give him the "all clear", I could see him coming back. As you said, he's already 40, how many more years does he have left at this point? 1? Maybe 2 tops? If his doctors tell him that even though he's not 100%, re-injury wouldn't impact him for next year or down the line, I think he'd return just to give the middle finger to everyone that doubted him.
Rodgers is also from the era of pocket passers that hates getting hit. Not blaming him for that because that era of quarterbacks were smart about it and never missed games because they felt pressure and took the sacks or threw the ball away before getting smashed.
Rodgers is going to be turning 41. I think we can both agree that there is a very good chance Rodgers doesn't play every game next year. I also highly doubt Saleh is letting Zach almost get him fired a 4th time. I can't imagine they let him sit as the 3rd QB either since that would probably just piss off zach anyways. I just don't really see him being on the roster regardless of what happens the next 4 games.
