We know the disaster the Rodgers experiment has been to date for the Jets - we do not know what may have happened on the field here if Carr was signed instead of Rodgers. We also know the difference in the financial and draft value cost to the Jets and can identify, though not quantify, the damage done in areas such as coaching and on field personnel matters. Carr was brought into the conversation by someone else, I didn't campaign to bring him here but also did not favor the trade for Rodgers. I will, however, state my firm belief that Derek Carr has performed substantially better this year than any quarterback appearing in a New York Jets uniform.
So did Rodgers last year. And better than Carr too. It's a different story when a GM and a coach roll Duane off the injury and without practice as your starting LT after the whole off-season to prepare for the year where really making play-offs should be the mandate. Yeah we would have had two extra second rounders. But at least for this year, it is probably Carr on IR, like Mike White was last year, or struggling behind this garbage of the O-Line. We need a GM to do better or a better GM. Otherwise no QB will succeed here. Not even Carr.
Last year the Jets weren't paying Rodgers a dime so who cares? Why this conversation is being turned towards any position other than quarterback eludes me. We get it - guys get hurt, guys get old, guys screw up, those are core values of the NFL; if that comes as a surprise to anyone, particularly those charged with putting together an NFL team, that's their problem and they will pay the price. Eventually. But sometimes that takes way too long. Basing an argument on speculation of hypotheticals is ridiculous - just deal with reality in the here and now. Hopefully you're not saying two more second rounders would not have some substantial value here; surely there are plenty of holes to be filled.
That's kind of my point - you mentioned Carr is doing better elsewhere than our QBs this year on the Jets - which does not mean at all he would be doing much better here. If you only want to talk here and now, no hypotheticals, then don't even bring up Carr to begin with, it's irrelevant how he is doing in a completely different setting. Two second rounders - sure, but one of them is next year, only one would be this year, which maybe would have helped. But JD did have a 1st rounder this year, which is significantly more valuable, and it didn't help as he pissed it away. And herein lies my point. More so than any specific QB, JD failed to build the offense for 4 years now, which is the root of the problem. Particularly the line which has tremendous impact on a QB, running game, and offense in general. He hired the coach, who is a defensive one with overall defense oriented philosophy and who cannot bring in a good OC in two tries. The results of good defense and terrible offense is ultimately the result of how JD managed the construction of the overall team, yes including the QB, but much more than that. As far Rodgers, I am not ready to say the gambit failed yet, because you do have to look at the opportunity cost, and given how JD used the resources other than Rodgers this year, I don't think we would be much better off had we not done it. I want to see next year before judging the Rodgers gambit, but hopefully with a better GM (or at worst a much better job from the current one) to improve the team.
Once again, Carr was brought into the conversation by another poster apparently in some kind of effort to show that the Rodgers debacle has not harmed the Jets. I simply disagreed with him, so if you object to bringing up Carr make that objection to the guy who did. And I agree wholeheartedly with you that Carr's performance anywhere other than here is an irrelevancy. I also have no complaint at all with your second paragraph and have never claimed that the final chapter of the Rodgers fiasco has been written, but in the middle of the book failure looms.
yearly cash is meaningless. it's cap hit that matters and overall average. it can be structured however the team wants. lamaars cash this year is 80 million lol it doesn't mean anything, just means they got a big signing bonus this year
funny enough the fans turned on him and started booing him during the game this past week and he wound up getting injured. not sure how severe it is though
You said that a number of times already but refuse to explain why you claim they're making the same money when they're not. THe average doesn't matter at all if the guy doesn't play out his contract. If you're going to respond, don't forget you still have not addressed the cost of the draft picks that went to the Packers. Or don't they count?
because the value of the contract is the decider. not what year the money is placed in. it's overall value divided by the years. they both have an average of 37.5m. rodgers is for 3 years, carr is for 4 years. Rodgers also took a massive paycut. he was already guaranteed 50mil over 3 years on his previous deal. he took 37.5m less over the contract to play here. he had to restructure twice as well. once before the trade to fit under our cap and once after to balance it out. as far as the picks go, yes it wound up costing us a 2nd rounder but thats a small difference in quality from a solid QB whos been at best a borderline top 10 in any season compared to an elite HOF QB with 3 MVPs and a SB win. Had he not got hurt, none of this would be a conversation. had we gotten carr we'd hear how dumb JD was for passing on rodgers for only a draft pick and getting a 2nd tier FA who is making too much to be bad.
You are amazing! You continue to be able to see into the minds of strangers past present and future. You even know how well a guy would have played...if he played. You are here Monday through Friday every week then take the weekend off, no doubt to use that amazing clairvoyance to cash in big time at the casinos. Pretty sure that time machine mind of yours has failed to realize the trade cost the Jets not just a second round pick but a second round pick both in 2023 and 2024. If you choose to respond, tell us how much Rogers will get paid in 2024 or 2025 if he retires.
lol way to move goalpost and personal attack after you are once again proven wrong instead of just owning up to it. this is why i don't explain things to you. you are impossible Edit: yeah there was another 2nd. forgot about that but still cheeap for a QB these days. watson and wilson both went for 3+ 1sts, and the niners used 3+ 1sts for lance and the panthers 2 1sts a 2nd and DJ moore so still a bargain
i agree with your take here but they did trade a 2023 2nd as part of the package. the 2nd the jets have this year was because they traded Moore and a 3rd for the browns 2nd
yeah your right. there was another 2nd I forgot about. still 2 2nds when other teams were giving up 3 1sts for QBs is a bargain
What about pick 42? The Jets gave it to Green Bay! You can conjure up anything you want to but no video of the draft has anything at all to do with what draft picks were traded. Are we supposed to believe that the Jets would have done nothing different in the draft if the trade had not occurred? It's not a personal attack to point out that there is no fact base for what goes on in your mind. You have absolutely no idea of what Rodgers would have done if he played four plays, four games or four months and it's preposterous that you think you do.
The Browns Watson trade may go down as the worst in NFL history, still some TBD but it is a disaster. Saying the Rodgers trade isn't as bad as that isn't saying much. As far as the Jets-Packers trade goes, right now it looks like the Packers fleeced us
A guest on the Jake Asman show was saying that the Jets could target Marvin Harrison, Jr., a great WR prospect, in the draft.
