Let's see what we think about this, hmmm...

Ok, so Trent Green goes down with a bad concussion game 1 and Damon Huard goes 5-4 as his replacement, averaging 20 points a game during his tenure. Then Green comes back and Herm throws him in and sits Huard and the Chiefs go 4-3, averaging 19 points a game under Green.

Gotta be somebody's fault, we got knocked out of the playoffs because our offense couldn't get going. Lemme see, who can I throw under the bus here? Oh yeah, that sacrificial guy I kept around from Al Saunders team he'll do.

Hardly a surprise here. Based on this, LJ should expect to carry it about 450 times next year, with the occasional 70 yard bomb thrown in.

I cannot for the life of me see the argument in favor of moving away from an offense that was so successful, in favor of a trend towards more of what left them woefully incompetent in the playoff game against Indy. But hey, that's just me.

I'll be damned if I wasn't planning to add the Larry Johnson 450 carries (exact number mind you) to my original post. I got lazy and decided to go with a couple of one-liners and make it a short post for a change.

    Very good point. :)

Has Herm had any assistants leave for a promotion with another team or have all of his assistants gotten the axe?

Like Bill SImmons pointed out, the year after Anderson had 410 carries he had 19 carries. Larry Johnson is just physically worn out.

John Fox fired henning, did he throw him under the bus?

parcells let go of Zimmer, did he throw him under the bus?

Every year coaches make changes and we have no idea why this change was made.

and Terrell Davis and a bunch of other guys, including Curtis Martin.

I will go out and guarantee Johnson won't get 450 carries. He won't make it to that point.

How many of Parcells assistants have become head coaches because of Parcells?
How many teams has Parcells brought from sucking to extreme respectability?
How many other assistants has Fox fired? At least 1 per year?
How many of Herms coaches, past and present would consider him a mentor?

So if you have some success it's ok to fire assistants bu if you haven't been to a SB it's not? So john Fox gets the benefit of the doubt b/c he took a team in the crappy NFC to the SB? BP gets the benefit b/c of what he did 10-20 years ago? Ok I get it.

    10-20 years ago?????

Who is Sean Payton and what was his last team before becoming a Head Coach?

Would a team looking for a HC ask to speak to one of Herms assistants before BP's????
Henning has been the OC for 3 years, did Fox fire an assistant after his first year with the team?

I was speaking of parcells' success. he has been a failure in Dallas, his last good team was in 1998 and Sean Payton was barely w/ Dallas. he wasn't a Parcells protege, he was in the NFL from '97-'02 and was mentioned as a possible HC when he was w/ the Giants.

We have no idea why he fired his QB coach, he didn't let the OC or DC go it was the QB coach. W/ the Jets he didn't pick his assistants and you don' think Cottrell deserved to lose his job after '03? you don't think hackett deserved to lose his job after '04? he made tough decisions that were good decisions. I love how it's OK for parcells to let Zimmer go but not for Herm to let Cottrell go(by the way it was Zimmer's D that got BP to the playoffs in 2003).

Herm has been a head coach for what 6 years now. Dont you think that at least one team, any team would grab one of his assistants by now?
The Raiders, Cards, Lions have had some of the worst coaching for the past several years and even they havent wanted to touch anyone from Herms team.
DH got his interviews and was quickly passed over. The 49ers were smart enough to see that Cottrell wasnt the answer.
In Herms 6 years, which of his assistants have gotten a promotion to another team or left on their own?

He didn't get to pick his staff, he had a mostly older staff. guys who had been around for a long time and weren't going to be HC's but Cottrell was close a few times, Sutton is now a DC, Doug Marrone is an OC and will be a hot name, Corwin brown just became DC of ND.

Sutton was initially hired by Groh in 2000 to coach the LBs.
