Fair enough, I just feel it would be wasting next year as well. Plus, their track record of drafting and developing quarterbacks is absolutely pitiful. I'd much rather they use a later round pick and let the guy sit for a year or two like they should have with the last couple of guys.
I think if the Jets are in a position to take a top-tier quarterback, they should trade for multiple picks.
zach wislon was a top tier QB for the draft. as was trey lance, mac jones, justin fields, daniel jones, etc etc. the list goes on forever. your saying to take a possible zach wilson over a position that will help now?
In no land or fantasy was Zach Wilson a top prospect save for the land of Covid inflated stats and a GM dipshit enough to draft him. You keep drafting until you hit one.
I'd be a big fan of a late Day 2/Day 3 investment in a QB in this draft class. Gives that guy a chance to sit for at least a year, maybe 2, and then take over for Rodgers or battle it out with another QB to take over.
jon lynch wanted to trade up for him and preferred him. when it was obvious the jets wanted wilson he gave up 3 1sts to trade up for trey lance. zach was the consensus QB2 in the class among the draft "experts" doesn't mean shit now but at the time he was a top QB. it's not like he was some 5th round prospect we reached on. nfldraft buzz had him at 8 overall, PFN had him at 5, PFF had him at 2, sporitngnews had him at 5, nfl.com had him at 13. thats the definition of a top prospect.
I like this line of thinking as we need immediate help on OL and almost as badly at WR. However, the chance of a round 2 QB hitting is WAY lower than a top of the first round QB hitting, which itself feels like a 50/50 shot anyway. We have drafted plenty of round 2-4 QBs…they have ALL sucked even worse than the first round guys like Sanchez, Darnold, and Zach. No one wants to go draft another Clemens, Petty, Hack, Morgan, etc. We have had terrible luck drafting Day 2 QBs and I would almost be sure that pick would be close to a guaranteed throw away. By the way, we’ve ALSO sucked at picking 2nd round WR as well, including 2 by JD in Mims and Moore, but comes on the tail of others like Hill going way back.
I forgot what GM it was but he basically said you should draft a QB every year. never know when you'll hit on 1 and if you have extra it's positive value in a trade. kinda like what the pats did with cassell and jimmy g
That is just not true. A lot of teams considered him a top choice. The fact that he turned out not to be doesn't change that. The fact is, first round quarterbacks are a crapshoot. Always. You rarely get more than one that works out, and often none. The whole idea of keep drafting them until you hit is great for later rounds, but if you're going to do that in the first round, all you do is handcuff your team's ability to build correctly. This would be the third time the Jets have done that in the last seven drafts. It was ridiculous enough when they did it twice in four, three in seven is utterly ridiculous and besides all of that, you can't trust this regime to develop a quarterback.
I don't know if it's Boyle or Hackett but it's probably both I feel like every damn throw was within 2 yards of the LOS. Infuriating Last throw of the game 4 and 14 and you hit a 2 yard checkdown to the FB???? wheres the game awareness? Granted the game was over
Discussing Tim Boyle, as an NFL QB, is NOT a topic of discussion. In my book he doesn't belong in the league let alone on a field. Anyone who threw 12 TD's vs. 26 picks, AT THE COLLEGE LEVEL, doesn't DESERVE to be on an NFL field so, after this post I will not acknowledge his presence. The fact our jack wad, ass clown joke of a FO is going to trot that fucker out there, AGAIN, tells me ALL I need to know about this coaching staff and our GM. I don't give a shit if Rodgers was guaranteed to deliver a SB, this coaching staff doesn't DESERVE to be a part of it. Period. What a joke this shit show has turned out to be.
Aaron Rodgers wanted us to dumpster dive Detroit's practice squad to sign this guy. Whats strange to me is, why did we bend over backward to please Rodgers? He'd worn out his welcome with everyone in GB, was boxed into a corner, and we still gave him every dumb thing he wanted.
I watched the game in a strange hazy disbelief, so I wasn't really comprehending what was taking place when the Jets were on offense, but was Boyle throwing every other pass sidearm, usually unnecessarily?
