Reminds me of that wrestling gif/clip that does the rounds all the time on Reels with the kid Toby - poor Toby
I think the simplest explanation is likely the correct one - JD just refused to admit he whiffed on Wilson. He kept giving him just a bit more time hoping the lightbulb would go off and before he knew it 3 years were down the drain.
Hughes said it today on Twitter. I vaguely recall something similar to this being reported before but not this explicitly.
Good thing we waited until the season was over to make a change! Wouldn't want the rest of the team to feel like we're doing everything we can to win
I haven't seen this report. Where can I find it? I don't think it makes sense though. Zach was benched for White, Streveler, and Flacco. #1 need as said by everyone was the QB. They went out and got a QB. MILF was the scapegoat, and to be fair the offense wasn't very good. Even without Zach at the end. So, they replaced MILF with Hack to get Rodgers. And it could have worked too if JD didn't fuck OLine, OT specifically and we didn't have Jets luck.
He mentioned it in this tweet: https://x.com/Connor_J_Hughes/status/1726679393190215822?s=20 Maybe MLF was pushing for the benchings which put him at odds with Wilson and JD.
This is not really a report, more like a message board style rebuttal to the guy who said the Jets failed Zach. I wouldn't put much credence into this, it just does not make sense - not after benching Zach for 3 different guys and looking for a QB as top priority. MILF was the scapegoat for the season end meltdown. Someone had to take a fall - besides they did get Rodgers, because of Hackett. That's probably saving them all right now from getting fired, particularly JD.
I don't find it too hard to believe and I don't know why Hughes would lie about it. MLF was fired long before it was clear the Jets were going to get Rodgers, and I think this season proves that JD was still dead-set on playing Wilson until just yesterday. It also makes me wonder if this means a rift formed or is forming between Saleh and JD. I could see Saleh being upset that his guy took the fall for the guy JD drafted.
He didn't lie, it was more like tongue-in-cheek response... You may be onto something here with the possible rift though. Not because of this, but there was a comment made by Saleh in his presser when Connor asked about whether it changes pre draft thought process, something like that. Saleh chuckled then goes, I got my thoughts on this, and I told them to JD. Not sure how to interpret that, maybe Saleh is indeed unhappy about something. And there is a lot of things to be upset at JD about for this off-season. Aside from getting Rodgers (which was essentially negated by JD's failure to protect him) JD really fucked up A LOT this off-season.
It's like you build the ultimate team game and then install one single point of failure that can destroy it all.
Back to the Jets draft plans that occurs every 3 years, draft a QB in round 1, draft an OL in round 2….sheesh.
