This is only a dumb JD move - because like many of us said...you should have traded him in preseason and let Bam and Izzy compete at #3 and #4. Another dumb JD non-move coming back to haunt us. JD and Saleh are way too conservative and cautious to run a major market franchise. They don't factor in things will change out of their control, and the the NY fanbase will not give you much time without real results. What good is a great defense and young offensive players when you can't win games or make the playoffs.
Carter, one of many players who have shown talent over the past few years that have fallen by the wayside. Maybe it's not the players. In addition to Carter there is Denzel Mims, Elijah Moore, and Corey Davis among players who wanted out. It's very difficult for a WR to show what he has when the QB can't get them the ball. It's very easy to look at the numbers and blame the victim. Even with our best receiver, Garrett Wilson, almost every catch he makes is a 9 on a scale of 10 difficulty. In Carter's case it's just as difficult to run in an offense that can't pass. Defenses know it and are stacked up against the runners as Hall and Cook are finding out. I guess someone has to take the blame for the FO, CS ineptitude.
yeah…he hasn’t been good, so not a huge loss from a production standpoint, looked slow and was not elusive, so no loss really However, this move actually pisses me off a little because it’s SO cosmetic it’s funny. There are SO many problems on offense. QB sucks, Uzomah sucks. OL sucks. Lazard sucks. OC sucks. The game plans aren’t great. Seriously…SO much needs to improve, but hey look, they actually DID something. They cut a guy! Oh yeah, the guy is a non factor guy but hey, look over here, see? We DO give a shit. We ARE taking names! It just smacks of such a bullshit move If not for Rodgers, Hackett would not have been hired so we’re stuck with him, but jeez. I watched Josh Allen do a perfect Zach impression last night…177 yards…1 TD/2 Picks…barely above 50% completion. Shit…take away that TD and that could be a Zach stat line most of his career. They then go on to lose the game on a shitshow 12 men on the field FG penalty…so very JETS like. And what do they do? They fire their OC. He had ZERO to do with that FG…when the O left the field, they were winning. The D let them down and the ST let them down. But shit…they’ve seen enough. Damn…we’ve seen 2.5 YEARS of that kind of QB play, but no…we’re going to go ahead and cut our RB3 Come on, man! Unbelievable with this franchise…
Mekhi Becton always been a better tweeter than pass protector on twitter right after Carters release "This one hurts the most. I can't even lie."
Bingo! All the Zach and Douglas apologists can't even make up any lame excuses for this one. The Bills said they fired Dorsey based on what they saw over "the entire season" yet the Jets have had 2.5 years of tape on this consensus bottom 3 QB in the NFL (ZW) and still haven't made a move at the most important position on the field? This wreaks of politics and other shit going on with the front office, Rodgers, Zach's Uncle, etc, etc. A much more well-run franchise in the Bills with sustained success over the last few years obviously knows how to cut bait and make a change when things aren't working. What do the Jets do? They double down on the failure that is Zach Wilson and say they aren't going to make any QB changes this year. They have an entire half a season left and they are going to be this lax and don't give a fuck enough to do anything? This is so FUCKED UP. Woody and Douglas are like accomplices to a serious crime. They're just watching it happen and not doing a damn thing about it. And don't give me the bs about Saleh. He's just a front man and very good defensive coach and has no say whatsoever in the QB position. This has Woodrow and Douglas' fingerprints all over it. Douglas needs to be fired ASAP. He's a moron when it comes to QB's, no question. Woody? Well we're stuck with him so just have to keep praying he gets lucky with his next pick to try and fix this thing.
Seems like in 2022 Joe Douglas found those pills that Bradley Cooper was taking in Limitless and then quickly ran out of them after the draft.
I was just thinking that yesterday. There is so much going on between Aaron Rodgers, Woody Johnson forcing this whole thing, Saleh being forced to play Zach Wilson - someone somewhere has to be collecting the scoops!
He should never have made the roster, and I wasn’t the only one on this board saying that, so it’s not hindsight. Carter did nothing well so why did JD keep him? His penalty might have cost us the game. Same reason he wouldn’t provide completion to Zach in the offseason, and the same reason he still wouldn’t sign one after Rodgers injury while Zach was floundering week after week. He apparently also thought Billy Turner was good depth getting beat like a drum against 3rd stringers. Stubbornness and pride, and it’s costing us yet another playoff appearance. This season is 100% on JD. There were blatantly obvious moves to make that could’ve saved this season but he sat on his hands rather than owning his mistakes. That’s unforgivable imo.
The truth is Carter was the worst RB in training camp. Izzy was significantly better, and he is 20 years old. Bam looked better than Carter for 90% of the camp, but made it close at the end by making some costly mistakes at the wrong time, end of preseason, and given Carter had a draft pedigree while Bam was UDFA, he was cut instead of Carter. But, the truth is Carter stunk for two seasons now. Not a ground breaking move, but I doubt he will be missed.
Making decisions based on past “draft pedigree” rather than what you see? That’s the type of incompetence that drives me crazy. And we have seen way too much of it.
Not really a comment on Carter's release, but he reminded me of coworkers we've all probably had who were not good at their jobs and knew they weren't so they tried to make up for it by being extremely likable and thus harder to fire.
Not going to defend any reasoning for the move but are you really going to act like Carter, Mims and Moore were being held back and it had nothing to do with their own play? They have about 500 total yards this season between the 3 of them and only one of them played for the Jets. Moore is averaging less than 35 yds a game and Mims less than 21. Not sure how Davis stepping away from football is him "wanting out" since he is completely out of football at this time. Yes, sometimes it is easy to look at the numbers, it's also easy to look at their play on the field.
Cutting Carter was long overdue. Cutting him now was just a message to the players that are at risk of being held accountable. Obviously Zach won’t be held accountable, but maybe one of the TE’s will be next.
Remember, we don’t hold Zach accountable. He’s still developing. We only hold fringe guys who really don’t matter accountable.
