My guy, again, no one is saying stats can't be misleading, they can. But the position you've taken is that stats are essentially meaningless. Pass rush win rate and pressures per pass rush attempt are also stats, are they meaningless?
All this. ZW is LUCKY to score two TDs when the rest of the offense is running smoothly. Almost seems like the offense has just given up. Players don't seem uber focused. I think it was Breece who said after the game that his fellow players "Have to grow up and learn to just do their jobs". Garrett said "It's hard looking at the defense when we come off the field". Again, Saleh or Hackett? At least one head needs to roll. Maybe two.
Frankly, you are clueless if that is your take. Please spare me and the rest of us with your dribble...
those stats only started being kept recently (last few years) and they are also subjective. lots of sites list different amounts of pressures for the same player. it's not a finite clear end of a play stat like a sack. even those can be subjective at times with them rewarding half sacks and such. and it doesn't take into account players who get doubled teamed more or what lineman they are facing. a lesser player can put up a higher "pressure rate" by facing backups and no double teams compared to say an aaron donald who faces double teams and triple teams all game long because teams watch the film and know how good he is and gameplan to remove him. football has the highest amount of variables of any sport which is why it's considered the "ultimate team game" the stats don't mean a ton as far as who is a better player. easy example mahomes is 11th in the NFL in QB rating currently. is anyone here going to tell me mahomes isn't even a top 10 QB in the NFL? but the stats say that
context explains how the number was achieved no context QB A has 1 TD context QB A dropped back to pass, threw an errant pass that hit off a defenders helmet, the ball bounced off the helmet up into the air, a WR in the end zone jumped up and caught the ball resulting in a TD thats pretty damn basic. thats what context is edit: and don't call people clueless when you don't know what context is and they need to ELI5 you. it's a bad look.
I agree with that. the players and coaches are clearly frustrated. saleh even admitted that. the offense simply isn't working and really it's on saleh and hackett to fix it.
none actually. not really my thing. but IDK how your comment makes any sense when I simply explained context here is a dictionary explanation "the circumstances that form the setting for an event, statement, or idea, and in terms of which it can be fully understood and assessed:" It's pretty sad that on a forum with 20+ adults more then half don't seem to know what context is
Well I would say that you can’t take one stat and use that to make a conclusion that he’s a bad pass rusher and then jump to another conclusion about letting him walk. Your argument makes no sense. If we were talking about Huff, we would look at several stats, like win rate, how many plays he ran, so for example he is not a starter so if he’s played in 45 games (which I haven’t looked to see if that number is the number or just we’re assuming he played every game)…he’s been a part time player for most of his time here and it’s really this year that he’s gotten more playing time. But…if we were to pull stats for him to evaluate him, sure I’d look at total sacks, sacks per game, pressure win rate, pressures per game, etc. And I’d have NO problem looking at those stats and comparing them to other pass rushers and see how they line up. And I wouldn’t give a shit that he didn’t play the same opponents and the same OT’s that all the other pass rushers have played against, because in the long run, that shit evens out. And then I’d look at the tape and watch the games. To my eye, he’s been a very disruptive player and causes a lot of pressures and gets some sacks. Sure, to be an elite guy … say a Nick Bosa or Micah Parsons type of pass rusher, he’d have to close more of those sacks. So I’d guess (without looking it up) that his stats would probably not be as good as those guys. And that would match the eye test. He’s a pretty damn good pass rusher. He’s no Nick Bosa or Micah Parsons, but he’s pretty good and getting better. I would NOT let him walk. And so to get back to Zach, it’s not just ONE stat. It’s pretty much ALL of them. Individual? Sure, he’s bottom of the barrel in QB rating, QBR, Yards/Game, Completion Rate, TD’s, first downs, you name it. Team stats? Again we are bottom of the barrel. Seriously…I don’t know why you stick to this talk track that stats don’t mean ANYTHING. It’s ridiculous. They are not the end all be all for sure. They need context. They need a statistically significant sample size. But when we have that after 30 games of this shit show, and when they ALL point to the same thing, which is shitty QB play, and when you watch the games and see how we struggle on offense, they are 100% valid and they DO tell the story. Don’t know why you’re defending this position so hard. You didn’t draft him. You can see we suck on O. No one is saying he’s the ONLY reason…we ALL see our OL sucks and we ALL see our receivers outside of Wilson suck too…shit, Uzomah dropped a perfect TD throw. But he is the QB. He is THE most critical part. A better QB would make our OL and WRs look better than they do now. That’s just the nature of the game. Brady did it his whole career with mostly journeymen receivers, and when he finally got a great one in Randy Moss, he set records. So better QB play would make the whole offense look better. The OL wouldn’t look as bad if he knew where to go with the ball and if he hit the gimmes like that first pass to the TE in the flat. The receivers would look better if he wasn’t leading them into head on collisions with safeties or if he actually threw on target more than he does.
Zach Wilson sucks based on the eye test and the stats so happen to assert that claim to be true. It must be a miracle that the stats actually tell the story of a player in his third year.
context bro consider this- if a QB throws a ball and it hits a UFO and bounces perfectly into the hands of a TE, is it really a touchdown? Well it goes in the books as 1TD can’t believe you’ve never thought of that
lol what is this "i know you are but what am I" comment. what are you 12? if your gonna seagull post at least be entertaining and original lol
I gave an example of something that literally happened this past weekend. you'd know that if you actually watched a game
I just don't get why they are so reluctant to change scheme and/or personnel. The shit they are doing is not working... and hasn't been working all season. It's kinda insane. The Charger game is the perfect example of why depending on defense to win games doesn't work in the long run. A punt return and a few fumbles and we're fucked. I know what I'd do if I was the OC... I'd suit up every running back and tight end and run heavy. Mix it in with sharp play action and some end-arounds with GW and Gipson. And I hate watching running offenses... but it eats clock and keeps the turnovers down. Having Zach throw 50 passes is just stupid... let him sling it once the front backs off
I really don't get it either. I mean I understand what he's trying to do, I just don't agree with his way of doing things currently. for a coach all he cares about is winning. doesn't matter if it's ugly or the offense is ass. He thinks his best chance to win is by playing defense and grinding out wins in ugly fashion. just keeping it close and hoping for the splash play late in the game. we did it 4 times this year so i can't say it's not working technically but as a fan we obviously want to watch a "good product" and the jets aren't that currently. I do agree hackett needs to be more creative but he's never run those type of offenses.
So the guy who won't allow anyone to quote stats is now claiming four stats "prove" Wilson is "one of the most clutch QBs all time." Of course three of those four stats are not based on what Wilson himself does other than be on the field some of the time the team performed the actions necessary; defensive and special teams scoring also counts. The sole individual "stat" of the bunch could be possible, but I'd like to see the Ripley's version of it explained. The source of the incredible claim that Wilson is in the top ten of all time NFL fourth down passers requires identification.
