Then he doesn't understand basic football strategy, which was my point all along. The objective at this point of the game is to make it a one-possession game going into the fourth quarter. Period.
Sorry, I assumed you meant dump the ball off to someone when you said, "He has PLENTY of time to dump that ball off." in the post I replied too. Now I see that you just meant to get rid of the ball and not take the sack. Which I would agree with.
its not a 1 possession game if you can't score a TD. even if we get that FG, based on our red zone issues we would need 3 more FGs to take the lead. We have to score TDs and stop being conservative. that is on tomlinson not zach.
uhhhh. what I think the offense needs to score TDs and not be conservative as well but I dont see how a guard is responsible for that and the QB is not
The funny thing is those handful of good throws give the quarterback – starved fan base of the New York Jets all kinds of hope and reasons to excuse the majority!
@BrooklynJetsFan, I stand somewhat corrected here. The All-22 view shows that Mack was not as close as the broadcast view suggests. Zach had plenty of room to step into this throw. This one is 100% on him and I withdraw any Turner blame for this specific play.
No doubt. I was past it a while ago, and frankly, even though I was wrong to a degree, I was done with him when he threw the rest of his team under the bus last year. Why the Jets refuse to acknowledge that the experiment is over is anyone's guess.
That’s where I’m at as well. All the stats show he’s bottom 5 QB over his 30 games played…Bill Walsh said you know about a guy after about 20 games…I’d listen to Walsh as he seemed to know a thing or two about offense….just sayin’ The individual stats suck. The team stats suck…we are bottom of the league in total yards, points, 3rd down conversions…you name it…we suck at it, in some cases to historically bad levels. Finally, the eye test matches all of that. This offense stalls…struggles to sustain drives, can’t score TDs…it’s just brutal to watch. No, it’s not all Zach’s fault. Our OL sucks. Our receivers not named Wilson suck. I get it. But it’s the most critical position on the field, and he’s just not good at it. It’s not a lack of physical talent. With him it’s all mental/processing. He just can’t see the field, can’t feel pressure, doesn’t have that knack of maneuvering in the pocket well, doesn’t throw on time, doesn’t throw accurately half the time, doesn’t feel where receivers are going (either he doesn’t trust the routes, doesn’t know the routes, or just doesn’t have the confidence to throw until he sees a receiver is open…whatever it is), and he doesn’t understand game situations (so many examples of taking bad sacks to get out of FG range, the dumpoff in Denver that killed the clock, etc.). Just so overwhelmingly bad with this kid. Thirty games in and not a SINGLE great game. Not a one. Kind of unheard of. So it is what it is. He’s terrible. He’s not improving nearly enough. And we’re stuck with him because we have no other options. But he’s cooked. Regrettedly, he’s THE biggest draft bust in a LONG line of putrid Jets draft busts…up until now I kind of looked at Vernon Gholston as the worst of the worst draft pick, but this is way worse….higher pick at a more important position, and it’s a position that just kills the team
yeah that was just a misfire from zach. the pocket was clean, GW beat his man and he had a good throwing lane. outside of that everyone did their job well. if you look at the view from 14 seconds you'll see zach start looking right then he looks left to move things over then snaps back right and fires. just a misthrow there
He’s NOW a complete statue in the pocket. Doesn’t slide left or right, when he feels pressure and doesn’t try throw the ball away. He doesn’t know to avoid pressure. Josh Allen would have ran through the gap on the redzone sack by Bosa on the 12 yard line. Step up, slide right, or run right. and it’s daylight. Yea your backup RT got beat by an All-Pro pass rusher. Help him out. NFL is too much for him. No feel in the pocket.
They Needed a TD with a 2 Point conversion and an FG to tie the score. The order in which they are achieved is irrelevant.
I know technically it would have made it a 1 possession game, my point was simply that assumes the team is capable of scoring a TD and for us, realistically the only chance we had was 4 FGs which means 4 possessions.
No worries! appreciate the breakdown. I do believe if Zach had more pocket presence he could avoid alot of those hits and keep defenders 2nd guessing… Needs you his legs more.
he does need to work on that for sure, but it has been much better then he was last year where he was bailing out of clean pockets and running backwards. at leats now he's been standing in there and climbing the pocket. the issue is you can't climb the pocket with interior pressure
He needs to work on sliding left and right, and into the gaps the pressure creates. there’s so much work to do with him…
