It’s amazing. I actually slept like shit last night. Almost 50 years old, and this damn team can piss me off/disappoint me that much still. I almost miss the Bowles/gase years where I really didn’t care anymore.
263 yards passing technically but Wilson lost nearly 60 yards in sacks. And his last drive when the Chargers called off the dogs he put up 70 meaningless yards.(60+70 is 130) You take his 263 and subtract 130, you get 133 net passing when the game actually mattered. That is a more realistic view of his performance anyway since he only put up 2 field goals all day against the leagues worst pass defense coming in only an ass would say he did better than Herbert
numbers with that many variables don't have meaning. when I point it out I get the "it'll average out over time" which i explained is only true if there is constants. since it's all variables it never evens out, it just gets more convoluted. numbers w/o context don't have weight. perfect example player A bull rushes the OT and sacks the QB within 2 seconds. he gets a sack Player B gets held up at the line, QB has nobody open, he chases the QB to the sideline, Qb steps out half a yard behind the LOS. Player B gets a sack. statwise they are the same value, impact wise and in context player A did way better. It's clear everyone feels the same way who does it professionally. teams have scouts and scouting departments to watch film. Coaches coach players by film, not stats. ESPN made up their own QBR because they felt the original one was flawed. AWS has advanced stats. and then there is PFF which throws all stats out and just grades a player based on film and a grading scale, which again isn't perfect because it's still just some people's opinion and the scale isn't perfect by any means. thats why i don't care about stats. one of the funniest ones this weekend was watson "threw a TD" but it was a shit pass that deflected off a defenders helmet and happened to get caught by the WR in the endzone on a lucky bounce. Zach (albiet in garbage time) threw a perfectly catch-able ball to uzo who dropped it. Hell even zachs 1st TD of the year to wilson was a shit pass and GW bailed him out and he got credit for a TD. Herberts 3rd down pass to allen was shit and he was wide open and allen bailed him out with a crazy catch. zach was on the money to lazard several times who just dropped it. plus several plays called back on dumb off the ball or pre-snap penalties. also being in 3rd and 10 is harder to throw then 3rd and 3 but both count the same in stats. techncially stat wise zach is the most clutch player in the NFL. obviously he isn't. and yes you are somewhat correct about my zach assessment. he's a below average QB. he's not good. Never said he was. he's a bust of 2OA and is now a backup. but as a backup thrust into duty he's playing good enough to be ranked around 25ish which is a step up from being a starter and being by far the worst in the NFL the past 2 seasons. I gave him 2 years for his "flashes" to turn out to overall good play and he isn't it. Ridgers is the QB in 2024 and maybe 2025. maybe not. after rodgers we need to find a new QB. what bothers me is the hyperbolic over-emotional nonsense when you are trying to have a reasonable talk and people think nathan peterman is a better QB then zach, or colin kaepernick. it's just nonsense. I pointed out at 1 time that like it or not, realistically speaking zach is a top 50 QB in the world and was met with "he's not even top 100" thats redicilous. there isn't even 100 QBs rostered in the NFL that means that they think some fat 40 year old sitting on his couch can come in and play QB better lol. its redicilous (and yes i'm exgerating about the fat 40 year old) Apparently it's just too much to have a normal conversation becuase people are too emotional. I think the CS is trying to play slow ball and hide zach. it needs to stop. they need to open up the offense and live and die by zach but instead we are trying to squeak wins by not making mistakes and playing good defense in the hopes rodgers comes back to a team still in the hunt and can open the offense up then. I don't agree with it but we are 4-4 and only 1-2 games out of a playoff spot (1.5 games out of 1st in the division with 2 games against mia still and the lead against buff) we aren't in a bad spot considering the mass injuries and tough schedule we faced so far. we almost beat KC (refs be damned) beat philly and beat the bills. we aren't the 1-7 panthers with a shit looking rookie QB 1st overall meanwhile the 2nd OA pick looks like a stud already at QB
You lost me with they need to open up the offense. He threw 49 times yesterday. They opened it up and it looks like trash. The overall offense is not that good. Zach cannot make anything look better. So you have to run/PA run, run, run/pass and play field position. Hack and Zach should be practicing how to convert 3rd downs ALL WEEK. And get in position to let Greg bail us out of games. anything more with this QB with this set of offensive players is laughable.
They started him in hurry up to start the game. did you watch? That’s literally the definition of no handcuffs. He was audibling all sorts of terms.
Kudos to Costello for stating the Truth >>ZW is a Douglas bust and together with OL neglect he should be canned. Have any of the Zach apologists looked at the rest of the schedule? Raiders Bills Dolphins (2xs) Falcons Texans Commanders Browns Patriots. All of the above can out punch us easily. And I am talking the likes of Jimmy G, Taylor Heineke, CJ Stroud (the Rookie) and Sam Howell on the "easier" Teams. Salah and Joe D Hackett can go ahead and get fired playing Zach ..so long a holes. But because the Jets Defense will be on the field 80% of all these games I predict some big time injuries unfortunately.
Practicing converting 3rd downs?? really? That's sounds like High School or Junior college ..honestly. Not the fucking NFL with 45 million handed to you. If you dont know how to get your team a first down or when to don’t run for one you dont deserve to be playing at this level. Your Football knowledge should be 75% complete
Simple. Get better at reading defenses pre-snap. Lack of 3rd down conversions is deficiency by Hack/Zach in the film room. 3rd down passing plays should be the plays Zach knows the best and high degree to execute and find the open receivers. Should be the most tailored plays for his skillset.
And might we remember what happened every single time that was done the last couple seasons? The offense immediately, not after awhile, not after a few games, immediately started moving forward every single time. Even with guys like Josh Johnson and Streveler. Mike White even shredded a couple teams when healthy.
All really good observations. To me, coming into the 2203 season, NO ONE thought Zach Wilson was a Franchise QB who could play well above the bar and hide a linty of sins. He can not make a sieve of an Oline look decent buy making quick decisions and getting the ball out FAST and accurate. He can not convert on 3rd and 18 b/c of yet another holding call. He can not convert on a 4th and 1 turned 4th and 6 b/c another lineman jumped. He can not play from behind. And he can not take sloppy effort all around him and turn it into gold. Just cant. Knowing all this going into the season, it seams our Offense should have been OVER-COACHED and HAMMERED into NOT making bonehead False Starts....bonehead holding where it didn't even matter....bonehead 5yrd penalties for not getting set...bonehead blocking in the back. over and over To give ZW even a CHANCE, the rest of our offense HAS to run like a well-oiled, well-coached machine. And it's just NOT. Our Offense at times seems undisciplined and a total mess. Is this on Hackett of Saleh?
Worry not my ray of sunshine. The Jets have it in them to outbust themselves one day, you'll see. I believe! As a side note, I always thought it morbidly fascinating that Leon Hess looked like Jiminy Cricket. Two for one here, I guess.
That's awesome. 3 step drop should be out in 1.3 seconds. 5 step drop in 1.8 seconds. 7 step drop in 2.3 seconds. WTF was he doing on those other TWENTY SEVEN drop backs????
That's basically just practicing plays. Third down comes with different pressure and a different look by the defense. I don't think you can simulate that. Which, now that I'm thinking, makes me wonder why he looks so good in practice from what they say. He's going against his own defense, which is one of the best defenses in the league. What the hell are they seeing? Unless the defense isn't going all out. Now I'm even more confused about this guy.
I thought it was interesting that we went with a lot of hurry up and no huddle…that was a good idea and creative coaching…many of us have pointed out that Zach has looked better in late game hurry up situations where he didn’t need to think too much or too long and just play, so finally our OC got the memo and went with it. Unfortunately it didn’t seem to make too much of a difference in the outcome, but I do like the effort in trying something different.
