Dennis Green...is that you? Again, the Patriots don't beat themselves and very rarely do beat themselves. That can be seen in two ways, I think. You could see that as the Chargers blowing it, or the Patriots knowing how to not beat themselves.
By your handle and your posts, I'll safely assume you are a Patriots fan. Why were you not watching the Patriots-Titans game? Harrison gave Wade the business after Wade had been tackled and was stuck in a pile. It's an old dirty, classless trick Harrison has been doing for years. He got his on the next play. That's tough. Couldn't have happened to a classier player (I'm being sarcastic here, Dirty). Classless. How about the Patriots running up the score in the Tennessee game?
Well in that case, take into account the downright ABISMAL coaching of Marty Schottenheimer and the inexperience of that Chargers team in the playoffs and you understand why the Chargers beat themselves. That team was young, and it was Marty's job to discipline them; something he obviously failed to do. Belichick does do it. The officiating was good. I think the "headbutt" call was more of a "taunting" penalty than an unnecessary roughness penalty, because he obviously was showboating. All Graham did was get him out of his face.
Patriots "sticking it" to the Dolphins Flutie dropkick it, or running up the score by putting Vinny Testerverde in. They are both the same and neither one proves that the Patriots are not classy. Since when is giving two future retirees their last chance to be in professional football game classless? As for running up the score against Tennessee, the Patriots put in their SCRUBS, which, by itself, proves that they weren't trying to run up the score. What business do the Titans have complaining about getting beat by a 3rd string QB?
The Patriots TRIED to beat themselves, and the Chargers just gave it right back. So I guess the Chargers just know how to beat themselves better.
Other than Brady throwing 3 INT's, which is the worst he has ever done in the playoffs, the rest of the team played well. The Pats D helped Brady out alot by responding after the INTS. So, that's better defense more than the Chargers sucking.
The Patriots threw a pass while up 10 points with less than two minutes on the clock. That is the epitome of running up the score. If it was so important for Testaverde to get a record put him earlier in a game. (That record is not anything even remotely important anyway.)
Because they weren't getting any advantage running the ball for no gain when Brady was able to pass on the secondary without feeling any rush from about the middle of Q2 onwards.
BillWeTrust, you never answered the question of why you weren't watching the Pats/Titans game. Or do Patriots fans just show up in the postseason to annoy the hell out of everyone? Also, you say the Pats have class because they never talk trash or make cheap blocks. Give me a break. They don't talk trash because it could result in a penalty. Yes, they are smart. They are also unbelievably cheap. There is a fine line between smash mouth football and dirty, cheap hits and the Pats cross that line all the time.
No man theres a fuckin difference. You show respect for the other team under all circumstances. More importantly you show repect to the game that makes you a wealthy and happy man.
--What record was Vinny going for? --The Patriots were trying to win that game because they didn't know the result of the Colts game. Why would you try to win with Vinny in for half the game or more? The Titans got beat by a 3rd string QB. Since when is that the Pats' fault?
What the hell kind of respect did New England show dancing on the logo taunting? Tomlinson is a football player who CARES and takes losses hard, especially the magnitude of yesterday. He wanted to go straight to the locker room and do whatever he was going to do. Respect, gimmie a break.
Surely, you can't be serious. Did you read what I wrote? The Patriots were up by 10 points with fewer than 2 minutes remaining in the game. The game was over for all intents and purposes. The game was over. The Patriots then threw a touchdown pass. Come on! Let's be real here and call a spade a spade. The Patriots were running up the score.
I agree. More to the point we're talking about Tomlinson here. A player who has never had any sort of outburst what so ever. We aren't talking about T.O freaking out after a loss. And who knows what words were being used out there on the field.
--My point: if the Patriots were intentionally running up the score, why not keep Tom Brady in the game? Why run up the score with a 3rd string QB?
You have no point here. It is irrelevant who was in the game. This is not college football where you might see a team tack on a late score to impress voters. You don't do this stuff in the NFL. Don't worry. What goes around, comes around.
Vinny was put in the game to get him one more chance on the field in his entire career. What is he to do; stink up the joint with an interception? What if they had scored a touchdown running? You guys called it classless when he was put in to take a knee. What IS he allowed to do on the field?
