(21 seconds into the YT video)
13:51, 2nd & 5: Quirky 13 personnel alignment, Breece split outside of GW on the right. Not sure what Zach saw here but to me, GW is wide open on his slant from the slot. Seems like Zach is looking directly at him and the hook zone defender inside goes with Conklin leaving a solid throwing lane. Maybe he's afraid 55 will jump up and bat it down? Zach doesn't pull the trigger, Lawrence gets interior pressure causing an incomplete pass. Gotta stick that Zach. (1-2, 12 yards)

(45 seconds into the YT video)
13:43, 3rd & 5: 11 personnel, trips bunch right. Again, I'm not really sure what Zach is or isn't seeing. Both Lazard and MC seem to be good options early on this play. Lazard running a slant/drag from the outside of the trips bunch and MC as Zach's checkdown out of the backfield. This is an example of rookie/2nd year Zach that we cannot see going forward. He's got to have that mental clock and once that thing hits 2.5/3 seconds, the ball has to be out. Instead, Thibodeaux beats Becton around the left side and get a strip sack and sets the Giants up for their first 3 points of the game. (1-2, 12 yards, 1 fumble)

    (5:50 into the YT video)
8:22, 3rd & 6: 11 personnel, empty set, 3x2. Not a great decision by Zach but it was a great throw. Conklin was the correct read as he looks to be wide open and has a better chance for the 1st. Zach gives Lazard a chance but the defender is all over him. Incomplete. (7-16, 110 yards, 1 TD, 1 fumble) (To be fair to Zach, this one isn't as egregious as the first 2 because I'm assuming Lazard is his first read and for whatever reason he feels Lazard is open enough to throw this ball)

    (6:47 into the YT video)
4:24, 3rd & 4: 12 personnel, trips left. Again, bad Zach. Rookie/2nd year Zach. There's no excuse to abandon this pocket when he does. None of his OL are beat and he's got a relatively clean pocket. He might even have GW on his slant/crosser if he stays in the pocket and tries to throw the ball. Either way, no need to run into the pressure like he does. Sack. Bad stuff. (8-17, 129 yards, 1 TD, 1 fumble) (Similar to the one above, not as egregious as the first two IMO, but the fact that he abandons a clean pocket and runs into pressure doesn't allow him to see GW break open on his slant. We can debate how open GW is on this slant but IMO, it's open enough for a player of GW's caliber)

There might be a couple more in the breakdown/video but you get the picture. That's 3-4 in the first half alone.

First One- I am not sure how to post pictures but he is getting hammered as GW comes open.

Second- I will give you this one but it looks MC was in the passing lane to hit Lazard then Thibs abused Becton. He should have dumped that ball earlier but not egregious

Third- This one is really picky especially considering 58 could have easily jumped that route. That was two in a row Lazard dropped. The throw before that play was a dime.

Final Play- You are tough, But correct he has a clean pocket and bails early. He stands tough and makes some of those throws later in the game. He definitely had GW open on the crosser. My only thought is that he thought he could run for the first.

None of those plays were egregious or 2022 Zach IMHO especially when put in the entirety of the game. He stood in the pocket on several key throws (See Narnia's Video) and delivered dimes behind a horrible o-line. Narnia is not a fan of Zach.

We forget that AR got hurt because he held the ball too long.

I do not see it that way. *I'm going to try to post pictures from my phone via Tapatalk to see if it works, bare with me, pictures will hopefully be below my responses for each.*
    [IMG]

It's 3rd & 5, both Lazard and MC are open here and have a decent chance to get a 1st. If Zach throws the ball and one of them makes a mistake (drops it, MC gets in the way of a pass intended for Lazard, etc.) then we shift blame to them because Zach did everything he could have, but that didn't happen. He's gotta make that throw from a clean pocket to an open guy.

Conklin is open here and probably gets the first. As I said though, I'm not gonna go crazy about this one because Lazard seems to be his primary read and he feels Lazard is open enough to make a play. He throws a very accurate ball into a tight window but this is still one he probably wants back.

There's just no need for him to bail from this clean pocket. Even if he feels Thibodeaux coming around Becton on his left, just step up a little, like he did on the 1st throw on the final drive of regulation, see if GW beats his man (he does) and make the throw.

I think the first 2 are fairly egregious. Guys are wide open in front of his face and he's just flat out missing them. I agree that the final 2 I highlighted are not though, even if they're still things I would like for him to do as a former #2 overall pick. Missing open guys and bailing from clean pockets are quintessential 2021-2022 Zach. I've tried to reset my expectations for him for this year but at this point, he's not the backup. He's been the starter for 6 games and is the unquestioned starter for the foreseeable future. I don't even feel like what I'm asking for is that much, just hit the open receivers and don't bail from clean pockets unnecessarily. Even if we want to continue to label him as a back-up, these are throws/decisions I would expect from a back-up QB.

It wasn't all bad from Zach, I highlighted a lot of good throws from him and I agree with Nania/DJ/etc. to an extent. He HAS improved, I see a lot of improvement in certain areas that I've highlighted in some of my other posts. Pocket awareness/navigation, footwork/accuracy, & his decision-making have all improved to vary degrees this year IMO. I still genuinely hope Zach turns into a plus starter at the QB position and while I think he's made strides towards that this year, I still remain doubtful because he's yet to show these things consistently, which has always been his "Achilles Heel" (maybe not the best pun considering the circumstances surrounding this year :D). If he can become more consistent, I can assure you that I'll be the first to hop back on the "Zach is a FQB" bandwagon.

EDIT: YAY! The pictures worked! Quick FYI to everyone, you can take pictures/screenshots on your phone and use the Tapatalk app to post those pictures on here. Great to know!

I mean on 4th and 10 dump offs are far from ideal. everyone shit on him for the conklin 4th and 5 where he threw it half a yard short. he was likely looking to pick up the 1st. getting 7 or 8 on a 4th and 10 is as pointless as a sack. I'll have to go back and watch to see if anyone was open on that play though

You have to remember he was getting insane interior pressure so you can't climb the pocket when that happens. dexy had 15 pressures according to PFF which is the most a IDL has gotten since they kept track.

Pictures popped up when I hit reply . That first one the pocket collapses when he gets to GW. Maybe he can get there quicker

2nd - He throws to MC he is not close to the first down when he gets to Lazard MC is in the passing lane and still short of the sticks but I understand your point

3rd- Conklin is open short of the sticks then he is not open. Zach throws that ball on time needs to be caught.

    4th- I agree with you

Zach is still not a finished product but played well this game considering the guy opposite him threw for negative yards and a defense where Josh Allen threw for 120 yards in good conditions.

If Zach can be more consistent or mix in some more scoring plays he is well on his way. I think by the end of this season he will be close (at least I hope) if he makes it through the Chargers game with this o-line.

Don't get me wrong, I understand why he reverted back. I think he ended up getting pressured on what like 55% of his dropbacks? (Someone please correct that stat if it's wrong, feel like I saw that on Twitter yesterday or Monday)

The carousel at OL did him no favors on Sunday but I still can't excuse some of the things I saw away.

and nobody is saying he was perfect. the most "optimistic" people here say he's playing like a top 20-25 QB which is a step up from worst QB in the NFL. every QB makes mistakes and has bad reads or misses an open WR. we don't have the peyton manning, drew brees tom brady types who seem to rarely if ever make mistakes like that. offense is down in the NFL as a whole. lowest in over a decade. O-line is down, QB is down etc etc. The standard for current NFL is lower then it used to be. I seen herbery make these same mistakes over and over this year. purdy and goff were being praised as the top 2 of the year and they have been just bad the past few weeks. I don't think him making a mistake here and there is the end of the world becuase he's done something other QBs haven't and thats avoiding the huge mistake that cost the game.

I think going back to the Chiefs game, I agree with the thought that he played like a top 20-25ish QB over that 3 game stretch (Chiefs, Broncos, Eagles).

I didn't see that vs the Giants though, I saw probably 25-30 level play. Not a massive step down to be fair, but a step down nonetheless IMO.

I mean it was pouring rain and weather does affect the game and should be accounted for in evaluations. and IDK how you can say as low as 30. tyrod/devito were clearly worse but I count them as 1 since same team. as was jimmy G and goff monday night. thats goes to 29 already. how about throwing in some other awful performances like PJ walker, trubisky, love that goes up to 26. and those are the non debatable ones. there are some you could debate were worse then zach as well. but bare minimum he was QB26 this week maybe as high as 22-23 when you include the debatable ones. when you put it in perspective with other QBs there is really no way he's 30 out of 32 starters (no bye weeks this week)

It was a bad day all around for the offense. I didn’t get to watch the game live as I was traveling, so when I got home and watched the game I already knew the outcome. So I watched it without going through the emotional roller coaster and frustration that I’m sure I would’ve had if I were watching the game live.

So my general impression is that this was a step back for Zach. Missed too much despite the pressure in his face…took a fucking sack on 4th and 10 which just shows he is clueless as to the game situation. At that point, throw it away or throw downfield and maybe you get a PI call, but even if it’s a pick hopefully it’s 30 yards downfield. Stupid fucking error.

Anyway, the part of the post I absolutely DON’T agree with is the bolded part. You CAN’T add back the drops. Every damn QB deals with that. And half of them are bad ball placement anyway. You can’t just ignore the bad plays just like you can’t ignore the TD where he threw a 2 yard dumpoff and Breece took it 50 yards for a TD. So if you want to add in the drops, will you also take away the 50 yard TD? Also, you can’t ignore those two great throws at the end of the game either.

It is what it is. He was bad and took a step back. Still, while watching the game afterwards, while I thought he was BAD, I didn’t come away with as much disgust as I thought I would before watching and hearing about how bad it was. Maybe because I already knew we won. Who knows.

But the fact remains he is in his third year and he STILL has not delivered even one great game. not a one. That’s not a good look…he’s what we have this year, but unless he improves significantly the rest of the way, I would absolutely say we need to find a new QB to sit behind Rodgers next year and get ready to be the starter when Rodgers retires…because if this is Zach’s ceiling, I want no part of him as a starter.

goff? He threw for nearly 300 yards in an easy double digit win.

in what world is that worse than Zach Wilson’s performance?

Garappolo was worse, this week anyway, and he has been benched for it

This team needs get a true #2 receiver. I think the entire complexion of the offense changes even Zach’s performance…for the better.

It’s the most important thing holding it back. There’s not much we can do or Hackett without more passing threats.

JD has yet to build a complete team. He needs to call Corey Davis and get him back in the building.

Ah man thanks for that tidbit on sacks yardage…I had assumed that sack yardage DID come off a QB’s passing yards so now I know better! Thanks!

Yah…also the other thing I’d point out is that both Garapolo and Goff have each had MUCH better days, and have historically been better, than Zach has ever had. Can’t just pull a SHIT game from Jimmy G, one of his worst, and point to that and say “see? He’s as bad as Zach!” Doesn’t work that way.

Side note…I was actually at that game as my wife is a HUGE Raiders fan…and watching Jimmy G I was like, man he looks like Zach tonight…under 50% completion, 120 or so yards, no TDs, missed a WIDE OPEN Adams TWICE where he could’ve had long TD catches…man, that’s what we see most of the time from Zach…the other funny part is that the Raiders have now benched Jimmy G for the Aiden kid…so they are not tolerating that level of play…and it’s not like they are bringing in a superstar QB instead…

And side note #2, just saw the Raiders fired McDaniels…who is a shitty HC on top of being a total dick person…when they hired him after he blew up Denver in a year and a half (shitty HC) and then backed out on Indy the night before the press conference (total and absolute dick ass move that showed horrible character), I was so sorry for my wife having to endure that piece of shit coaching her team. Not a single Patriots asst coach has done well as an HC. That team was all Brady….shit, even the great Belichick is 2-6 without Brady. Still a great coach, but less so without Brady.

Anyway…side rant over…just glad to see McDaniels out.

I will also say in Zach’s defense that this Giants D has been playing pretty damn well lately…they did hold Buffalo to 14 points in Buffalo a couple weeks ago. That team’s problems are their OL is hurt as bad if not worse than ours, and they don’t have a GW at receiver. But their D is good.

stop stat watching. the offense was carried by gibbs. he sputtered in the red zone. 1st 3 drives all wound up as short FG attempts. then he threw a 75 yard pick 6 after the half to make it a 16-14 game when they should have went up at least 19-7 if not 23-7 essentially sealing it. then they leaned on gibbs the rest of the game after that. if his name was "zach wilson" everyone here would be trashing his performance. and goff has been for he most part a top 5 QB this season so far so it was an outlier performance but it was a rough one

Wow. and you are the arrogant guy that likes to tell people you know the game more.

There is no world where Wilson was better than Goff sunday. Just insanity

he “sputtered in the red zone” LOL at least he got to the red zone!

when your RB gets almost 200 yards it's kinda easy lol and the other teans offense can't move the ball.
You are arrogant bud. looking at a stat sheet and rounding yardage to think it makes a point it arrogant. not stating facts of things that happened in the game.
How about saying some of the positive stuff goff did in the game? like that he actually did? not a stat. Goff has been a top 5 QB all year but looked awful this week. it happens.
