Brock Purdy unlikely to play this Sunday, making Sam Darnold the 49ers starter, just when they seem to be running into problems on both offense and defense.

He'a had like 1.5 years to study and get better--it wouldn't surprise me if he looks decent.

Tough not to root for him. He really got a raw deal here if anyone ever did. The entire roster was full of jobbers. Then we ship him out and finally get a suite of talented players.

I was going to start a thread “Quarterback Factory” pointing out this weekend, THREE teams with SB aspirations will be starting QBs drafted by the Jets. I know there are a few teams with two

As if we needed anything else to illustrate how bad this team has been at developing QBs.

Apparently Sam Darnold will not start for 49ers this week. So much for resurrecting his career, I'm afraid.

There were folks arguing that Sam Darnold was going to lead the 49ers to victory. Sure the 49ers have better offensive weapons and perhaps much better coaching.

But the Bengals are starting to win and their defense is a good reason. I think the 49ers offense will be challenged with either QB playing.

If the 49ers are not playing Darnold this game, this might not be so bad. Having him play a game against a more inferior team than the Bengals might be better for him.

49ers lose again. How soon before this becomes reality?

The Bengals are for real now. They are clicking on all cylinders.

Last year they got screwed by the refs in the Championship game against the Chiefs. They are Super Bowl contenders in my humble opinion.

Had Darnold played, he would have faced a very difficult situation with the Bengal's defense as I said in a previous post.

I've developed a somewhat irrational hatred for KC. I can't stand Patrick Mahomes idiot brother, I can't stand his vapid, self-entitled wife, I can't stand the media saturation with Travis Kelce, and if I see Taylor Swift's face at a televised game one more time, I'm turning it off. All of that and the fix benefits from the refs, I'm not sure if I'm watching Peyton Mahomes or Patrick Brady.

I only say this because the Chiefs were mentioned. That aside, Sam's chance may roll around again. I wish him luck regardless (as long as he's not playing against the Jets). Sigh. What could have been, I reckon.

Funny enough I picked the Bengals-49ers to both make the Super Bowl with the Bengals winning. A few weeks ago I didn't feel confident about the Bengals, now I don't feel great about the niners.

The biggest issue for the Bengal right now is the Ravens are ahead, have already beat them and host a game against them in a few weeks.

Bengals have to win in Baltimore or else they will be a wild card which obviously makes it very difficult.

Also I wish Darnold the best, he was given a raw deal here. Never had any talent on offense. I can't even name a single player on that offense and it's only been a couple years. I think he will do well in San Fran and if he does then it wouldn't surprise me if they stuck with him because they know when to keep the hot hand.

I am probably one of the few Patriots fans who will admit that Brady got favorable treatment from the refs. For example, he would cry to the refs and a roughing the passer call would be called afterward. It goes without saying the famous tuck play against the Raiders was probably the worst. What kills me is years later when Brady is going over the play with his college Wolverine buddy Charles Woodson, he points out that Woodson could have been called for an illegal hit to the head to Brady on that play. What is sad to me, by today's idiotic rules he is right. The Raiders would have been penalized 15 yards also to make it worse by today's rules protecting the superstar QB.

As to Sam, I hope he gets a chance and the opponent's defense is not as good as the Bengals who made Purdy look bad.

Some of the calls were just ridiculous.

There was a game against the Jets at MetLife....I can't remember if it was under Gase or Bowles.....we had a semi-brain dead DE who would take dumb penalties but this time the play was over and he and Brady were just approaching one another and he just put his hand flat-against his chest like you do when you say STOP.

Brady stopped and reversed and raised his arms like "Hey, he touched me" -- and the f****** refs threw the flag. I think we won the game, can't remember, but I remember the play was a joke. If gambling had been allowed back then, it would have been all the talk.

Holy crap Bears overpay for Montez Sweat--2nd rounder which looks to be inside pick 40. Hard to believe they couldn't get back a 4th or so. Better them than us.

Too bad Sam Darnold did not get a chance to start. I was hoping for it.
