Unless we get some bodies in here for the OL. we are toast and I do not mean just this game. Also, you have a QB want-a-be that makes an "occassional" good NFL throws but lacks the skill, mental processing ability to even execute the O to get 3rd downs.... we should thank the lord for 4-3 with this stiff and CS.
There's a lot of talk about trying to add a WR to this room at the deadline, which I'm definitely open to if it's a thoughtful move. For what they have right now, I'd like to see them get the TEs involved even more in the passing game. Conklin has been solid and Uzomah is no star, but can he can play. And Ruckert has made some nice plays when given the chance. I haven't seen him involved much at all, but he should be. And regardless of who's in the receiver room, they need to push the ball down the field more. Take some deep shots off play action. GW is a star. Lazard is pretty lousy and has some atrocious hands but he's 6-5. That deep throw on 3rd down to Malik Taylor in OT got a PI that set up the game-winning FG. They need to keep the defense on their toes more and that's going to help the running game (and everything else)
Regardless of what we all wish or think the truth is this offense as currently constructed is not going to score anymore than 20-24 points a game (not including any defensive scores). And even that many would be a good day….The QB is still on training wheels - to an extent, there is a lack of playmakers, and the OL is decimated. The coaching staff had to adjust on the fly when Rodgers went down - they have a very good defense and have decided they will lean on that. It is what it is. Game plans can be adjusted obviously but at some point you hit a dead end in regards to having the ability to carry it out. Zach has shown improvement we can’t deny that but he is not yet ready to compete with these high powered offenses today …. Yes he did play well against Mahomes but that was a glimpse of what he can do rather than a constant. Much of this really can’t be changed until the offseason … yes the injuries really suck but before the injuries one mistake I saw was not playing these OL together enough in the preseason to form that cohesiveness. Depending on a guy like Brown was another mistake. They really need to reshape this OL once and for all with another couple of high picks and add to the playmakers. As for 2023 keep plugging along and JD needs to find more pieces for this OL before tomorrow ….. not an easy task.
If the Jets put sauce on Keenan and try to keep Ekeler bottled up, with no free runs out of the backfield to catch timing passes then their D has a real chance to keep this a low scoring game, there really aren't many other weapons the Chargers have except maybe Josh Palmer but he shouldn't scare any D. Bosa and Mack are going have Zach running for his life on passing downs. Who knows if the Jets will show up but if they don't lean on the run game this could be an easy win for the Chargers, not necessarily high scoring but an easy win. Rather than flip a coin on this I'd say if Breece gets 100yds rushing and 1 td the Jets win, if not they lose.
I will be really surprised if the Jets win. I saw something that showed teams that get the ball out quickly and the Cowboys and Chargers were both near the top of the list in 2022. The Cowboys feasted on this Jets defense because of that, I think they will be the only team to legitimately put up 30+ on the Jets this season. But the Chargers could be close. 28 or 27. If the Chargers go for 28 or 27 the Jets can't keep up with Zach Wilson and this offensive line. Chargers got some studs rushing the passer too. I think it could be a double digit charger win. I'll say 27-17.
If there was ever a game to play a lot more man coverage, it’s this one. Quincy needs to be locked on Ekeler and have Sauce or Reed run with Keenan Allen. Allen’s made a career finding soft spots in zones.
chargers rank 31st on overall def, last in pass def, 10th rush def. They aren’t good. When playing a good def team, they’ve lost - vs cowboys and titans. people fail to realize how horrible the weather was yesterday - I was there.
If the OL can keep Zach upright the Jets can move the ball. But red zone issues seems to be the achilles heal for this offense ….
“Bad defense” is a little misleading. Tua and Mahomes threw for 400+ yards and Kirk for 370. A lot of defenses struggle against those guys. Definitely middle of the pack at best but still.
